Hi there,

i did rip some DVDs with this MPEG 5.1 Audio setting not informing me before if my player does support it or not... now i know my player does not support MPEG 5.1 Audio, but anyway i did finalize my cd images with VCDXBuild and they are playing fine. (i know now i had to use i-author, but make no sense anyway for me now ;-)

Is there any loss of audio signals (or channels maybe) if the MPEG 5.1 Audio setting is set and VCDXBuild is used for the cd images?

or is this just like ripping with stereo setting?

thanks for your answers!

extensively... but i did not find any information what happens when you choose MPEG 5.1 Audio with VCDXBuild to finalize?

i just need a simple answer if it is like the stereo setting?

I don't think you tried a search.

If you had you would find that the only program that supports 5.1 audio is I-Author. You need to use that program to mux your audio or else you will not get 5.1 sound.

Additionally, even if you do get 5.1 sound, you have a pretty poor chance of your DVD player being able to play it with 5.1 sound. Most do not.

i indeed did write that i know that i need to use i-author (read above ;-) but i noticed that my player does not support MPEG 5.1 audio at all...

i was only concerned if i had to reencode the audio of my ripped DVDs which i accidently ripped with that 5.1 setting...

if there isn't something lost in the audio channels by using VCDXBuild in combination with the 5.1 setting everythings fine, i'll keep my rips like they are and be happy!

http://hypercube.is.dreaming.org/

there is a database and a tutorial to author a 5.1 SVCD test disc... it did not work for me :-(

i was only concerned if i had to reencode the audio of my ripped DVDs which i accidently ripped with that 5.1 setting... This was probably your intent in the original question, but the original post was not written in a way that makes this obvious. In fact I did not see anywhere in that first post that you asked how to replace the audio with stereo.
You can't blame people for not knowing what you are asking for with a post like the first one. It was all over the place and never really asked a question about switching audio.

You will need to re-encode the audio and re-mux the audio and video.

BTW 5.1 audio is not worth the effort IMO. It is not Dolby Digital or even close.

If I rip a DVD with DolbyDigital 5.1 soundtrack, isn't the audioinformation copied 1:1 into the resulting mpeg5.1 channels?
I thought it would be, and hence the result should be comparable to DolbyDigital.

Can someone enlighten me?

sorry for making not clear what i wanted the 1st time ;-)

You will need to re-encode the audio and re-mux the audio and video.

How to do this? Will i need the original DVDs? Because in some cases i only lent them out... or is it possible to extract the audio of my faulty 5.1 SVCDs?

(to make it clear this time, i know how to de-mux mpg files but how to reencode the audio in stereo, if it possible anyway?)

thanks!

audioinformation copied 1:1 into the resulting mpeg5.1 channels? No not at all. If you need technically info ask the audio forum. There was a discussion on this in this forum before. If you want to look over it do a search. Almost all agreed that could play it that there wasn't much difference between Stereo and 5.1.

How to do this? Will i need the original DVDs? You cannot extract the audio from the exhisting SVCD's and use DVD2SVCD. You will need to start the audio over again using the original VOB's.

You might be able to extract the audio and convert it, but this cannot be done with DVD2SVCD. You will need to rip, demux, convert and remux all with individual programs.
