Is there any good software compatible with the Hauppauge WinTV-HD other than hauppauge's own, they haven't updated their's in over a year, and it's really lousy too.

I would love to find such a thing, but haven't heard of any. I still have a WinTV-HD on a shelf somewhere waiting to see if decent software ever arrives.

Supposedly the WinTV-HD hardware is one of the few cards that could also (legally) handle unencrypted QAM HDTV cable if Hauppauge ever provided software support for it. That alone makes me hang onto the darn thing.

does it, I didn't even know that.

I've sent them several emails over the last 2 years asking for improvements, and giving suggestions, but I never got a reply as to whether they care or not. how many own one here? if there's enough, maybe we can deluge them to try to get them to do something about it. If not, someone who knows how (not me, can't program worth a damn) should try writing a 3rd party program (open source or not) for it, possibly even replacement drivers (they crash too easily with a staticy digital channel).

I 'owned' a wintv-hd. Fired off an email asking for help about why it was crashing my win2k machine constantly. Never got a reply. So I took it back where I bought it and will never buy another hauppauge product again. They deserve a huge pat on the back if losing customers is their goal.

Hauppauge may not really have come into the Internet age.

But it's funny. I used to say they had pretty good support even when they didn't answer my emails. But that was because it was possible to actually pick up a phone and talk to a technical person there, even on my WinTV-HD.

I don't know if that's true anymore.

I really wouldn't mind the lack of replies, except that 1. they also haven't updated their software in over a year. before that, it took them almost 6 months after winXP came out for them to support WinXP.
2. their driver/software download page is a confusing mess. trying to update my card I have to go to 2 different card's pages, the one that's labeled for the wintv-hd for the hd update, and the wintv-d page for the viewer app, and don't even think about trying to update the janus capture drivers from them.
