The first proper release version of (S)VCD2DVDMPG is out & ready for download. Version 1.0 adds several new features over previous beta versions, including: VCD support & sequence header patching of entire files.

(S)VCD2DVDMPG helps users turn (S)VCD content into DVD compliant assets, ready for authoring DVDRs. It automates the following steps:

- rip (S)VCD .bin images to mpgs
- demux mpgs to elementary streams (ES)
- resample the audio ES from 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz
- patch the video ES/PS to DVD horizontal resolution
- optionally remux the ES streams into a mpg program stream (PS)
- Repatch VOB files after DVD authoring

The tool is a GUI front-end for the following command line tools:

- BeSweet
- MpegTx
- Mjpegtools
- VCDImager

The authors of these tools deserve the credit.

www.svcd2dvdmpg.com has guides & info to compliment the download.

Very Nice!! This is what I´ve been looking for. Lot´s of VCDs (futurama, Enterprise) are waiting to be put on DVD. SO far it´s a pain in the a.. to do it manualy.
I tried out V1.1 on W2k with the latest .Net Release (SP2), it seems to hang on some MPGs (downloaded via emule...). One stream got demuxed, but it´s size grew and grew.. till it was 8Gb big and my hd was full.
How about adding an option to chose different DIRs to speed up things on two HDs.
Great work!!!

Greetings Reiner

Thats a strange issue with the mpgs. What Mpeg Info do you have? From windows, right click->"Mpeg info..." on mpg file.

Hmm.W2k doesn´t give any infos there, does XP?
I use Bitrateviewer to check on MPEGS:
Num. of picture read: 240...
Stream type: MPEG-1 CBR
Resolution: 352*240
Aspect ratio: 4:3 NTSC 525
Framerate: 29.97
Nom. bitrate: 1150000 Bit/Sec
VBV buffer size: 20
Constrained param. flag: Yes
Chroma format: 4:2:0
DCT precision: 8
Pic. structure: FRAME
DCT type: Frame
Quantscale: Linear
Scan type: ZigZag
Frame type: Progressive
Scene change detection: FOUND
Variable GOP pattern: NOT FOUND
Notes:

So far, it looks like a standard VCD-File, VCDeasy also doesn´t complain, authoring with other tools works as well (nero, Ulead Movie Factory).

I´m just trtying some other files (futuramas), herre it seems to work.

Yes it looks ok to me....

Does either the svcd2dvdmpg or plus version allow me to change the bitrate from 224 to whatever we want. When doing this manually I usually lower the bitrate to 128 so I can fit the maximum amount of video. Also I signed up for paypal to donate for the + version and I guess it takes a couple days to verify the bank account so I will have to wait for it. I hope it's worth the wait;) I'm sure it will be.:)

dvd_maniac: Whilst currently you can't set bitrate, I will include it in the next version (which is a major release).

If you don't want to wait for PayPal you can use Kagi....

Thanx. A little bit more but svcd2dvdmpg seems to do everything I need. However, using svcd2dvdmpg standard is giving me some trouble. when I use vcd mode and hit mpg -> es, it gives me a valid mpv file, but the audio file of mpa gives me a warning in Maestro after compilation. So I tried mpg -> ps, this only gave me a m1v file, no audio? what am I doing wrong here?

ChrissyBoy

What was the Maestro warning?

at least one audio track must be ac3 or pcm. the result I get when using mpg -> es is a mpa file. I would then have to re-encode this to ac3 using besweet myself, which negates the use of this program. I can accept this is the case for the standard but I hope if I donate for the plus that this problem would not exist for me. This looks like an awesome program and I hope I can overcome this problem.
Also, on the topic of the plus version, If I do a folder with say 10 vcd compliant mpg's, how would the program automaticaaly generate the menu for it? If it creates a button for each video, then how does the naming convention work? And what about chapters?
Sorry if these issues have been addressed b4, but I could not find them on your site...

@ChrissyBoy
1. i told you NOT to use BeSweet as an AC3 encoder, since ac3enc.dll is an amature encoder and extremly buggy.
from the website :
Optional AC-3 encoding. AC-3 is strictly required for at least one audio track in NTSC DVDs. Some DVD players insist on this. Also AC-3 useful for use in DVDMaestro as you can exploit the "Create sync audio track" feature - allowing you to add multiple video assets to a movie (ultimately joining your SVCD CDs within the authoring software). You can choose between Sonic Foundry SoftEncode & BeSweet as your AC-3 encoders.
2. i told you that your tool must be freeware and not commercial IN ANY MEAN.
from the website :
The extended functionality of SVCD2DVDMPG+ is available to donators

you had violated BeSweet's license, you lied to me. you lost my authorization!

i demand that you remove any signs of BeSweet in your tool!

I am currently using Besweet that I downloaded from DOOM9. What violation did I commit?

I am currently waiting for PayPal to transfer funds so I can donate for svcd2dvdmpg+,

I am sorry if I somehow violated a rule, but if I did it was completely by accident.

I was also wondering when your faq's page will be completed?

@dvd_maniac: DSPGuru's post is for me.

@DSPGuru

I explain to plus users that if they want to use BeSweet for audio encoding they must download it from your site. I don't distribute it. The use of BeSweet for AC3 encoding is optional for users - they don't have to use it but if they download it & want to use it surely that’s up to them.

I'm sorry you feel as though BeSweet's license is violated. I will remove any signs of BeSweet from the SVCD2DVDMPG+ tool - I will release a new version on Monday which reflects this.

we talked about the ac3 encoding issue, and I TOLD YOU my permission to you is limited for only mp2 encodings using BeSweet v1.4 .

i can't understand how in your website you talk about ac3 encoding with BeSweet or even using toolame.dll, since you are not allowed to use ac3enc.dll, and since toolame.dll is only supported by BeSweet v1.5 latter betas.

your actions reflects disrespect to me (by lying to me, assuming i wouldn't notice), and disrespect to your own users (by encouraging them to create a non-compliant DVDs, due to bitstream syntax violation created by ac3enc).

anyone who ever asked my permission to use BeSweet for ac3 encoding purposes recieved a negative respone, and if you'll check, you'll see that ac3enc.dll is absent in the gordion-knot packages and even in the latest betas of BeSweet from my own website.

obviously, your users may download BeSweet from my website and do whatever they want with it. but you must remove any kind of signs of BeSweet support from your app.

this is the first time that a developer who got my permission was violating it. unless you fix this issue by monday, it will get to doom9's newspage.

now, i hope this is my last post in this saga,
Dg.

@DSPGuru

No disrespect was meant. We did talk about AC3 encoding after which I stopped bundling BeSweet 1.4 with my installation & told my users that if they wanted ac3 encoding with besweet then they would need to download a recent beta. I did this to accomodate your requirements.

Like i said i meant no disrespect.

BeSweet is no longer used in either version of SVCD2DVDMPG as of the current releases.
