Since yesterday, when I try to reach the site at http://doom9.org, IE pops up a dialog box asking for a username and password. If I click on cancel, everything goes well. Not really a problem then, but quite annoying anyway.

The IP I see now is 213.113.149.78, but the nasty popup is gone. Sorry.

I guess I know what happened... that server is on a dynamic IP.. so the IP changed, changes weren't announced fast enough and in the meantime another subscriber got that IP and he/she had a password protected http server.

mmm... I don't think so, because (sorry I omitted that) when the popup arrives, the main page of your site is aready displayed. Anyway, this is gone, so this may stay a mistery forever...

Actually, I have had the same problem for a few days. Every time I first load the front page, some frames (not all of them) required authorization. I just clicked cancel, hit refresh, and everything worked ok. This from both home and work.
However, as of today I don't get any content at all, just a request for authorization. Refresh does not help anymore.
How can I tell which server is actually being used? "host doom9.org" gives a list of servers... However, 140.99.103.150 pops up the same dialog, so that might be the one...
Using Phoenix.
EDIT:
Sorry, forgot to mention, the server asks permission to access an area called "restricted stuff", that might help you find the problem...

I also get something similar. doom9.net works but when i try to view doom9.org through IE it asks for a username and password, i did a ping in dos and for the ip it reports 140.99.103.150. and I'm not behind any form of internet security like firewalls or routers.
edit: however when i ping doom9.net it gives returns the ip 64.85.73.31

I can confirm this you using www.doom9.org on one of the servers. Try using just doom9.org and thing would be ok. We'll see what we can do about this.

Hmmm. This happened to me this morning. I refreshed the main page (http://www.doom9.org) and it said "FORBIDDEN". I removed the www part and had (http:/doom9.org). Then it asked me for the password. When I didn't have it, it didn't let me access the site...
Now- as I was typing this, I tried doom9.org again (without the www) again and it works...
Weird!

Same here...
www.doom9.org gives me Forbidden and doom9.org asks for pass/user :/

as usual, a report w/o an IP is useless. And since the failsave switchover is active again I know exactly when servers go down and come up again so you don't have to make any more such reports. I have notified the people who can do something against this and now it's outside my control.

down:
http://server1.doom9.org (takes you to adflix.com)
http://server2.doom9.org (forbidden)
http://server3.doom9.org (was working, now timeout)
http://server4.doom9.org (up/down)
server5 works tho. and the forum server (which i guess is seperate altogether, is having probs too with server load)

Is this the MPAA.... are just some server problems or did the DNS expire?

DNS server results as of 3:00am GMT the 24th.
*.doom9.net to 64.85.73.31 (no response)
doom9.org to 65.43.78.94 (authorization required)
www.doom9.org to 212.226.253.45 (forbidden)
server1.doom9.org to 66.237.62.205 (adflix)
server2.doom9.org to 212.43.217.100 (forbidden)
server3.doom9.org to 140.99.103.95 (no response)
server4.doom9.org to 65.43.78.94 (WORKING)
server5.doom9.org to 213.113.149.78 (WORKING)
server6.doom9.org to 212.226.253.45 (WORKING)
server7.doom9.org to 66.78.5.45 ("There's nothing to be seen here!")
my DNS servers: 192.203.196.20 and 129.186.142.200
check the default directory settings for 212.226.253.45...is this what you want? do you have the virtual host configuration correct for 65.43.78.94? going to server4.doom9.org or straight to the IP works, but when accessed using doom9.org, it doesn't. Same with 212.226.253.45 (server6.doom9.org).

so you don't have to make any more such reports. Has my English gotten that bad these days? All you do by not listening to me is piss me off.
