I am capturing mpeg transform stream from terrestial source. The intention would be to burn it on the dvd. This, however, does not work that well because there is a number of dropped frames. If I relax the settings in PVAStrumento under expert-tabb (don't allow it to drop entire GOP if it has any corrupt/missing frame) authoring software refuses to import demuxed video stream. If I allow the PVAStrumento to drop whole GOPs, import is successfull, but because entire GOPS's are dropped, I have to accept jumps in the picture. I know it would be possible to correct this by re-encoding the mpeg2 stream with penalty of quality loss and invariably out-of-synch audio. Does anyone know a tool that would repair GOP structure by adding missing frames by multiplying the last working frame (or any other way)?

ds.jar had also some options to not drop complete gops, but i never tried what it does instead. you can download it here (the homepage seems to be down): http://www.mira.lu/topfield/ds_v061k.zip

but the first thing i would try is to get these streams without framedrops, it must be possible in some way. :) ( i also tried ages to get it right)

Obviously this would be by far the preferred option. Unfortunately I am yet to hear from people who had been able to capture drop-free dvb from our (Finnish) dvb-t.

However, it looks like Ulead DVD MovieFactory isn't that picky about source files. So far every dvb-t capture I've fed to it have worked flawlessly on my settop. Obviously it's quite limited as a dvd authoring software, but I am propably able to live with its limitations when it comes to creating dvd's from dvb-t captures.

So far my biggest grievance is the shortcomings of chapters. By far the easiest way to get rid of commercials would be to create a chapter out of the part before commercial, one chapter of the commercial break, then the next chapter of the section after the break. Then simply ignore the chapter that consists of the commercial break. Would this be possible with Ulead DVD Workshop? Or is there other authoring applications, that arenät too picky about the validity of the source, but would allow more control about the dvd structure?

My opinion:

I am from Berlin / Germany. We have DVB T in a "beta test" for about half a year. It is very very buggy, many errors in the streams when you capture, the box (Hauppauge DEC 2000 t) often freezes completely. I dont think that you have a chance to get rid of these problems if you want to stick to DVB T, just wait and hope it will be better some time, if you dont want to buy a bigger antenna. :(

the homepage of dsjar is dead cause dvbmatt stopped the development and support of his tools, so no download available anymore at his site. Sad but true. Please remember that you need to have java to run dsjar

Unfortunately, this is pretty much the situation by us also. We have three computer cards on the market (KiSS Satdem card and two Hauppage models), all of them suck big time (both hardware and software leave much to be desired). Stand-alone boxes seem to work better, I don't have personal experiences with them though. All the captures made with computer cards have a number of errors and shortcomings, many of them apparently caused by poor receiver card and software, as people having settops box with harddrive capture possibility haven't reported such proplems (or at least not nearly as many problems). Antenna signal doesn't seem to make that much of a difference, there's plethora of errors even if the signal is very strong. Alternatives are even worse, though, as we don't have DVB-S and DVB-C cards have major shortcomings as well (and are pretty much impossible to get). However, even with all those problems the capture quality is still acceptable (way better than VHS for sure).

Hi,

I use the hauppaufe DEC 2000 t, this is a settop box with usb connection for the computer and there are also these problems. I talked to a fried who has only a settop box for the TV. It is the same...It is a shame that they cut off "normal" television to let us work with this sh**

Hi, I have a similar problem but I'm using a Satellite board (Vision Plus 1030).

I installed it correctly, new drivers, everything ok. When I watch/capture videos, there are lots of frames dropped (I've an Athlon XP 1700+ and CPU power is 40 - 60% and no other apps running).

If I check the signal power, it's very bad (about 30%). What can I do to increase this signal? Maybe is the LNB not perfectly allineated with satellite?0

PS: My LNB and other stuff were installed by a technic because I'm not able to do it. I can play with computer stuff, but I don't know anything about sat dishes and other.
My LNB is alimentated by my board, maybe is needed an external power supply?
