I used my own dvd2avi->virtualdub encoding method and it was flawless using the old version of virtualdub and divx5.02. But now i tried the new version and all the stuff i get sort of "diagonalized" video, completely screwed!!! anybody has got this bug??? it happens in both 5.03 and 5.02 encodes... is this a bad resolution problem?? 604x252 sounds divx compliant to me...

any ideas???

Are you using AviSynth in your process? If so:

Does scanning through the video produced by the .avs script have the error, or does the error occur only on encoded video?

If the video is good in the .avs script but bad after encoding, then you may be using an invalid resolution.

If the video is bad in the .avs script, then it's your source or a filter, and not DivX.

no, im not using avisynth, just virtualdub deinterlace and resize filters. On the previews the picture looks normal, only after encoding it looks like crap. Guess ill have to try avisynth, although i dont like jaggies on the movie :(

AviSynth = "jaggies" ???!!?? I don't understand that.

What resolution are you resizing to? DivX has restrictions (Mod4, if I recall correctly).

604x252, its compliant imo...

edit: this sux utterly, i tried avisynth and i still get the same BS!!! seems like a registry error or something... im going to uninstall and do some windoctof, might solve the problem

edit2: 572x240 still compliant and still f*cked up!!! aaaarrrrrrggggg i need some help guys!!! or should i just do some bug report to divxnetworks???

Hi-

What happens when you load the finished movie into Nandub/VDubMod? Does it still look screwed up? If not, it could be a video card issue. Why don't you try and do the movie in a more normal Mod 16 resolution, such as 608x256 or 576x240? You could just do a short section first for testing.

What decoder are you using? Have you tried ffdshow?

Also, as manono asks, what happens if you open the final avi in VirtualDub?

thnx manono, seems divx doesnt even comply with its own specs... i tried the resolutions you suggested and both work, seems that the perfect resolution is all about trial and error. Ill have to bare .3% and below AR errors hehe

think it's your video card, not the codec.

found the problem and its not the video card.

whenever i try non mod8 width resolutions it looks messed up, while using any mod2 height one works. worth to contact divxnetworks about this?

Hi-

worth to contact divxnetworks about this?

No. You should be doing them in Mod 16 anyway for compressibility reasons. Please read This Sticky (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42708) for more information (it's about a foot and a half down-the paragraph beginning with And one more thing.)

I just tested a width of Mod4 with XviD. The .avs looks fine, but the .avi looks bad, and the .avi when opened in VDub also looks bad. You shouldn't be using Mod 4 resolutions anyway. You're just asking for trouble. If you use GKnot for cropping and resizing, I'd recommend resetting the W-Modul to 32 and the H-Modul to 16.
