not sure if this is the right place to ask, but is there a better solution to do this other than using eo-video? I'd like to use something like AVISynth and CCE but I don't know if there's a filter that will support this.

I did it a very long time ago.
I had to use a capture-app which captures an output-window. I don't remember which one I used. If I remember correctly I used Camtasia.
This way you can capture it to an avi-file. The sound has to be recorded too. It's a very annoying way to convert, but it can be done.
Maybe someone else knows a better/smarter method?

There is a program called Tinra which converts Real Media to AVI.

hmm, not sure if it supports RV9 (although it may). I used tinra before, results were alright.. it isn't the proper way though technically. all it is doing is attempting to capture the output of the rm and dumping it in an avi file, but it isn't really converting the data bit for bit, but rather capturing over it... I think tinra might be your best bet though, atleast for now,.

eo-video can output avi files as well. just really, really slow. I was looking for something like the directshow filter or mpeg2 filter for avisynth, but I guess nobody did that. it would be great if someone does. :)

RV9 will not work with tinra 0.5 (latest release). EO video is the only proggy that will work with RV9, but if you encoded with resize option, then it will failed. Currently, there is no known VFW decoder for RV9 as yet.

Someone should look into making an AVISYNTH decoder for RV. After all what good is it to get your video in a format you can't get it back out of. I am not sure the Helix project has what is needed. Perhaps Karl Lillevold could be enlisted. It probably would not be a difficult thing for him to do. But the question is would he and would he be allowed to.

yes, I've been waiting for such a filter. currently if I want to convert RV to another format, I'd have to use EO-Video to convert it to some huge avi with huffyuv for best quality then process it through avisynth. but it takes too long with EO-Video and the intermediate file is too large. would be great if I can skip this unnecessary step. then it will make such conversions worthwhile.
