View Full Version : Is it possible to do a Comp.Test using Xvid

I've been looking into comp.Tests in general as of late and I cannot seem to find any tools for doing comp.tests with Xvid. (perhaps I'm not looking hard enough). I'm also having trouble understanding the mechanics of the comp.test (I know I can search it here but I'm not quite sure what to ask). So I can reproduce such tests manually.
Anyone here know where I can find tools, or at least a better idea on what to look for so I can make such tools myself?
Thanks

1) add the following line at the end of your .avs file:
SelectRangeEvery(700,14)
2) load the .avs in vdubmod and encode with your settings - only the first pass is needed
3) load the first pass .stats file in gknot and you have your compcheck result ;)

Don't use the "load" button .Xvid's newest builds support with advanced settings is broken atm.Try with "nandub files" ->open...(answer no at the question) and you 'll be ok.
regards,
george
Ps : don't use Selectrangeevery along with trim either.
for 1% comp check try
SelectRangeEvery(1400,14)
or
SelectRangeEvery(560,28)
(about the same percantage.I found it works quite nice (lowest deviation) with movies with very fast change of scenes)

I'm at work atm (with the same desktop I have at home. but... still no DV stuff to be played with here. I gotta lug this thing back) I'll try this stuff when I get home thanks for the link Dolemite.
@Drebel: I'll try that later. Thanks I was wondering what the problem was.

Jonny (the author of DivX5 Enc) is working on a tool that'll be able to do xvid comp. tests (among many other things).
I'm not sure when he'll do a public release, but I doubt it'll be long (but don't quote me on that as I don't really know anything else than that the beta works fine).

like drebel also said, it is important to answer with "no" on the 'frames-question'!

i use nitrogen's stats viewer, has a simple scaling calulator (it's a bit tricky to use it on a comptest but it works) and gives you a lot of informations
