reencoding divx 3.11 file to 3.11 or 5.03 ?!?

ok here's my problem i have a fairly old encode of mine and somehow the cd-r the rip was burned on has gone bad. now i was able to salvage the file with isobuster from the disk and it plays fine... i just cannot seek within the file.
somehow rekeying does not work in virtualdub(mod) so i think i do not have another joice than reencoding.
the problem is i have never done this befor and do not know if i would be better to reencode to divx 3.11 or if i'm better of using divx 5.03 (or Xvid). i do have to admit that i didn't use divx 3.11 for a very long time now. it was only back in my Xmpeg times that i did.

any opinion hints on how to best do this with the least quality loss possible are appreciated very much!

best will be to use xvid!

no actually in my garden there are some marihuana bam growing into the skies :-P

2 cases from my experience;
-had a problem as you do
(recovering the divx3,VDub couldn't
recover KF's...)
reencoded that to divx3 again...
excelent results....

-one time my filesize was too big,
reencoded divx3->divx3(but with smaller bitrate)
and again excellent results....

i still regard divx3 sharper than
divx5,and not so sharp as xvid(with mpeg quant),but
xvid has some other nasty bugs(very image
degrading....see

which prevent me
from using it.....

but try them all,see what's best for you
