which Lite-On do you have? (exact model number please)

I've got the 163D and suppose you've got its successor, the 166D... my 163 doesn't disappoint either, but it won't reach 16x when ripping. I'm getting around 8x average AFAIR. Oh, and your screenshot seems to be down.

the number in my device manager is

JLMS XJ-HD165H.

it reached 16x more to the end of the disk but at least it reaches it. i was expecting to maybe half the ripping time but this is better than i thought it would be :)

Is it possible that u r ripping non encrypted DVDs?

I am getting 16x ripping speeds only when the dvds in question r not encrypted, otherwise I am at 8x or so.

nah, it was encrypyed, it had a key so...

could it be the cache of the HD i was ripping to? that drive has an 8mb cache, maybe that helps.

I also have the LTD163 and I got over 16x today. Both were only 4 GB dvd's, Jerry Springer Ringmaster and Dazed & Confused. I ripped both as ISO's. Maybe that makes a difference?

I have this LTD163 also and I must say it blazes through most all dvd's i give it. I see it hit above 13x all the time. Thanks Doom9 forums for helping me choose that drive.

Does anyone know if the Liteon DVD-ROM drive reads DVD-R discs?

The LiteOn 163 reads everything except for DVD-RAM (perhaps even this, but I don't have DVD-RAM discs). The newer 165/166 models also read DVD-RAM for sure.
