I have a family video that is on VCD and i would like to convert it to DVD to hand out to the rest of my family. I would like it on DVD for obvious compatibility issues.. Is this possible? Any info. would be greatly appreciated..

you could try to read the guides at doom9.org

this is definitely possible, although I hope your source is very good, else the quality might not be up to par for DVD standards.

Yes I searched the guides at doom9 but have not come up with anything. Any other suggestions?

If you make it DVD compliant the output probably won't look very good since SVCD is a low bitrate 48 x 480 format.

To start if you have it on disc you will need to rip the mpg's out using something like ISO buster.

Then they are simple mpg files. You might have to convert them to DVD compliance, but I am not sure.

You audio will need to change to PCM or AC3 as well.

I would highly recomend taking this to the DVD forums since they are far more likely to know the answer then us.

We do more DVD -> SVCD and not the other way around.

Just one more thing before you go there:

The guide called "getting the best out of CCE" will help you. Once you do as Mark suggested and get the mpg's, you just need to make a simple avi script which resizes the video to 720x480. Make sure you use bicubic resize also. Then feed the avs file into CCE.

As Mark said, you will need to convert your audio with BeSweet (do not attempt to let CCE do the audio for you as it is quite terrible :D). Use the beSweet GUI for this.

I have had good results when converting high quality SVCD's but from your post I was confused as to whether you have VCD or SVCD. The topic said SVCD but in your post you say VCD. If you're using a plain VCD you probably will not get that great of results.

If you have any more questions, consult the other forums like Mark suggested, and make sure you read that guide.

Good Luck!
