View Full Version : Selecting DTS (instead of Dolby Digital) with DVD2SVCD

I'm trying to take advantage of DVDs with DTS audio tracks encoded onto them, however, I can't seem to get DVD2SVCD to allow me to 'select' the DTS audio track. As a matter of fact, I can't get the program to allow me to select anything other than the default 6 channel DD track that is selected by default. I've tried to deselect the default audio track and even tried selecting two audio tracks with DTS as the primary.
Nothing appears to be working. I can manually extract the DTS using DVD Decrypter and then piece that audio track with the re-encoded video in Maestro. I'm trying to avoid all of the manual extraction and calculation because I believe that DVD2SVCD is supposed to allow me to select DTS (and automatically calculate the video.mpv file size). However, that's not happening.
If anyone has suggestions or is simply running into the same problem, please let me know. I'd love to know if I'm the only one that is having the problem or if there is something simple and stupid that I'm overlooking. I've been saving my DVDs that have DTS audio encoded till I can get a solution to this, so the sooner the better. Thanks in advance to anyone who has assistance of some sort.
PS - Also, a little survey to see if anyone else has a pref for DTS over Dolby Digital or not.

hmm... I believe the program is called DVD2SVCD and is supposed to be used to create SVCDs from DVDs. Since SVCDs do not allow for either Dolby Digital nor DTS DVD2SVCD will transcode your audio track to a format that can be used on SVCDs. With DTS this is obviously not possible since we don't have any software DTS decoders that would output a 6ch wav. Thus, it's only natural that DVD2SVCD won't let you select a DTS track.
DVD2SVCD is not a DVD-R transcoding program even though the author has some plans to extend the program in that direction. But until that happens there's not much use for what you're asking. Why not rip with DVD Decrypter and enable stream processing to demux the DTS track during the ripping process?

This has little revelance to DVD2SVCD. DVD2SVCD cannot use DTS streams in a SVCD as was already stated.
Beyond that if you want to create a DVD-R then DVD2SVCD cannot properly mux the video anyway. You need an external program like Maestro to complete the process.
So simply do what Doom9 suggested and use DVD Decrypter to rip the DTS track if you want it.

Well, I guess if you don't see too much of the web, or read too many guides, you wouldn't know what I was talking about.
If you see the guide below, it should shed a little more light on the subject:

-- If it can't be done, I'm willing to accept that, but I was 'fishing' to see if there was someone out there in the same situation as myself and perhaps had discovered some kind of solution to this without having to switch all of the programs that I'm using to accomplish this. As listed above, everything works perfectly if I'm re-encoding a DVD to a 4.37 GB file to burn onto a DVD-R and there's no DTS audio file to deal with.
*** Perhaps you guys didn't notice that DVD2SVCD has a section under it's audio tab where you can check "Do not convert audio (use source audio). This is the option you check if you're using DVD2SVCD to RE-ENCODE DVD video to shrink it down to fit on a blank DVD-R, and you want to MAINTAIN the .ac3 audio file without re-encoding IT. Since DVD2SVCD DOES have this option, and SVCDs don't support that, any logical brain could figure out that DVD2SVCD can be used for MORE than simply to make SVCDs from DVDs.
---------------> Having said that, thanks for offering your posts. I'm grateful to anyone who takes the time to post replies in attempt to help me with this issue. I'd love to figure out a reasonable solution. Cherrio!

Also, when manually extracting the DTS audio and trying to use Maestro to build the final product, after compiling I get an error that says at least one audio track must be .ac3 or pcm. When I preview the compiles .vob files, there is NO sound.
All in all I can't get the DTS track "built into" the .vob files using maestro. (Also, the DTS track in the layout states '5 ch' (5 channel), where as the AC3 track will show '6 ch' (for 5.1 channel). Is there some reason that Maestro doesn't support 6 channel DTS? (this is obviously not a DVD2SVCD ?, but related to the issue posted)
