Every time I try to rip 2 audio channels at the same time I get an error message saying that my bitrate will exceed the standard bitrate (for SVCD).
Is there a way to lower it or is it impossible to rip 2 channels for a SVCD?
thx

i think you'll have to be a bit more clear.
the process that is called 'ripping' is getting the audio from a DVD to your harddrive (mostly alongside the video in vob files)
i think you are rather talking about
a) encoding audio
b) muxing....
anyway i think this post rather belongs into the audio or the SVCD forum!

It is possible to make 2 channel SVCD, they are probably the most common type I make, but you have to include the TOTAL bitrate of both audio tracks when calculating the maximum bitrate of the video. The total bitrates (video max + audio1 + audio2) cannot exceed 2720kbps.
Your options now are:
Re-encode the video with the correct max bitrate: The most time consuming option, but will give you the best results.
Re-encode the audio at a lower bitrate: much faster, but your audio may sound like crap if you have to lower the bitrate too much.
Mux it anyway, if it's only slightly over the max bitrate the majority of players will play it fine, but some players may have problems playing the SVCD.
ps, steVe is right, this post should be in the SVCD forum.

Many thanks for your both replies and sorry for not posting at the correct forum, but I don't really understand: I got this message when trying to rip only a movie and selected 2 audio channels in the conversion tab.
Where should I change and include the max bitrate?
And how do I calculate it (audio+video)?
Sorry about that, just starting with the process, everything else goes just perfect.

ok... befor you encode the video you calculate a certain bitrate so that you get an appropriate video size to fit the SVCD on a certain number of CDs
now let's say you have to audio channels each one encoded @ 192 kbit
so this will give you a total of 384 kbit
the total bitrate of a SVCD cannot exceed 2720 kbit so your video cannot be encoded at an higher bitrate than 2720 - 2*192 (= 2336 kbit)
understand?!?

GOT IT!!!!
Now I better understand how to play with the bitrate calculation...
In fact I thought about doing something similar, but didn't realize that I should substract the audio bitrate - which is, of course, obvious...
Thanks a lot for your help!
