Ligos has created an enhanced bundle of the Indeo codecs called Indeo XP for Windows. Indeo XP includes Indeo Video version 5.2, as well as support for older Indeo-based applications. The features include the following:

Optimization of the Indeo Video 5 scalability feature
A wavelet compression algorithm that improves visual quality over previous versions of Indeo
Better compression at all levels of video quality than previous generation codecs
Playback performance enhancements including smoother, interpolated "zoom by 2" playback.
Indeo XP for Windows (http://www.ligos.com/indeo.htm)

Has anybody had the chance to test this codec,is it suitable for DVD Rips?

I've been using Indeo 5.1 for capturing on my old P2-400 rig. The quality is comparable to MJPEG I think, but so are the file sizes...

Maybe 5.2 is totally different, but I'd say it's more of an intermediate file format (like hufyuv, mjpeg...) than a storage format.

EDIT: I just realized it's not free anymore (what a shame!). But you can still try the free Indeo 5.11 codec (http://www.heiko-saele.de/Indeo 5.11.exe) :D

@MoDo

If there is a problem (moral problem or I'm against forum's rules) delete my reply. Thanks

I tryed it, at 50KBps, the image is squary and run at 6 FPS on my computer (for encoding). RV9 is far better and faster.

Just tested it, what a piece of crap! Sirber you are right, this codec truly sux. Perhaps it's only good for multi gigs captures, Nevermind we'll find another codec to test. ;)

There is only two good codec, RealVideo 9 and XviD. Maybe SBC but I didn't test it. H264 will be so great.
