2 soundcards?

i recently substituted my SBLIVE 5.1 DIGITAL with a HERCULES GAMESURROUND FORTISSIMO 3 'cause of little problems with AC3 tracks.
The fort 3 is great as it has spdif out connector straight to my CAMBRIDGE DTT3500 DIGITAL 5.1 (great divX sound w dolby digital)
When i play cds though, my hercules just gives me 2 speakers, before with trhesblive i would get 5 thru the digital din cable.
is it advisable to install 2 soundcards?
will performnance suffer?

Shouldn't be a problem at all as long as you don't put them in PCI slots that share IRQs.

You'll just have to specify in each application which sound card it's supposed to use.
