hi i've just downloaded a pretty huge *.cab file as part of a program but it seems to be broken at a certain point. now does anyone of you know if there is a program to fix this kind of archives? i tired winrar but it says it can only repair zip and rar files, not cab. it opens it fine by the way but when extracting it stops at pretty much the same point telling me the archive is broken!
any hints are appreciated!
regards

PS: oh and just for the record this is no warezzz file :)

Hi killingspree,
.cab is a proprietary format used by Microsoft. I very much doubt you can find a program that can repair that kind of archive. Best chance is to go to microsoft.com and try to find something on their site or in the knowledgebase.

WinRAR will extract .cab files... sometimes you can extract the cab and replace the broken files with 0 byte files (there are quite a few freeware tools that will generate cab files), but usually the setup program will still chunk out when it detects the wrong filesize :( The cab files themselves don't contain the necessary information for repair :(

well since the broken file inside the *.cab file contains about a third of the whole data i cannot expect the program to run even if the installer accepts the dummy file, so this is not really an option.
thanks for your help though...
