can PC burn the camera

Is it possible that the firewire can cause malfunction to the DV Cam.?
A friend of mine had to replace (under warranty) 2 Sony PC 120 cams after he connected them to the firewire.
Can it be the firewire cable connection?

if the pins of the firewire are hooked up wrong, then its possible that the voltage line(s) could be going down the wrong lines at the other end.
