What hardware would I need to capture HBO HD, and other HD channels on directv, I dont have an hdtv receiver or any type of card yet. Thanks :)
postscript: I was looking at a sony hdtv receiver with DVI-HDTV output, I just dont know what type of card I would need for this?

*cough* 169time.com *cough*
Or you can go with Dish, and pay less to do the same thing.

Wow, I wasn't aware if that site. Interesting.
About Dish - how? They have no receivers with digital outputs and AFAIK it's impossible to cap HD sat channels from them.

Heh, heh! :D It's not impossible, but it's not particularly cheap or easy, either. And it will probably become impossible again before too long...
There is one (and only one) obsolete Dish receiver that has an optional box which will modulate the HD signal in such a way that a plain-vanilla HD card thinks it's from an antenna. As such, the card has no troubles storing the HD TS onto your hard drive!
Neat, eh?

Ah, yes. The infamous 5000's 8VSB modulation - forgot about that. Too bad that with the move to the new "enhanced" modulation it will become impossible.

You're not listening right! Dish is possible *now*, but it won't be soon. And there's a continuing solution for DTV, but you've gotta go through D-VHS first before going to computer. At least, as I understand it.
