I have just began with aac and mp4. I found quite easy to make .AAC files with AACMachine and play back them in winamp thanks to in_aac plugin.

If I want to listen them in WMPlayer I just make conversion to wav with AAC2WAV and listen them thanks to NIC's plugin.

The problem is that the .AAC file can't be played in WMPlayer (due to missing DSF) and the converted .WAV can't be played in Winamp (due to missing codec). Is there any way to make an AAC file that can be played in both applications? (codecs, filters, media containers, editing windows register or whatever idea you have)

Use this (http://www.3ivx.com/) MP4 directshow filter which includes one for AAC.

Get the "AAC/MP4 Input Plugins for Winamp2" from http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/aac.html

You should first convert your AAC files to MP4. It's fast, painless and you will notice that MP4 works much better than AAC. (faster file loading in Winamp, native tagging format, can be played back on all players that support MP4 (QuickTime, Envivio, LSX), can be decoded directly to CDDA with Nero)

I suggest you use MP4creator for converting (part of the MPEG4ip package). If you don't like CLI, use Speek's frontend.

I have converted files to mp4 and it seems to work correctly. I use envivio DSF for playback in WMP and it works correctly.

I had no succes with the 3ivx codec but anyway I added it to my collection.

at least the aac files created with nero work fine with 3ivX&WMP (at least on my machines)
