Can either one of these programs compress the EXTRAS? Some guy in another forum was telling me he compresses the EXTRAS and the MAIN movie with that combo but didn't get specific. He said the MENU remains uncompressed (but it is only 50 meg or so). I've perused the forums and searched under makeiteasy and read all of that, but can't quit get the answer. Can someone enlighten me?

I think makeiteasy could do the job in most instances, however, it is no longer necessary since DVD2ONE 1.01 and 1.02 allow you to specify the size of the output. Basically, makeiteasy did resizing (through the padding of VOB files) and it also automated the ifoupdate steps that are spelled out in JDobbs' current guide on this site, which I'd recommend using now instead of makeiteasy. I believe this guide in conjunction with DVD2ONE 1.01 or 1.02 will serve you better than makeiteasy and DVD2ONE 1.0.

By the way, JDobbs, creator of the guide, also created makeiteasy.

Definitely.

For DVD2one you can shrink the extras with the same exact method. Instead of choosing the large VTS that contains the movie you can choose a smaller one. I do it all the time. Normally I'll look and see how much space is taken by the extras. If it seems like too much I'll shrink the largest of the VTSs that hold the extras until I get the total small enough to make a good quality movie and then do the movie itself.

With InstantCopy it's even easier, you just choose the option to customize size and decide how much space to allocate to extras. Then you can use the freed space for the movie if you want to increase quality.

Jdobbs,
I was hoping you would answer this thread! :D
I tried to do Matrix like that but it didnt work....i did notice that it had a couple of sets of vts's that were large other than the main movie, but I just chose the next largest one. I moved the vts_1 - 3 into another folder and ran ifoedit on it just like i did the main movie and transcoded it with dvd2one. I did the same with the main movie file also in totally separate folders. I then took the transcoded extra and put it back into the main movie folder and ran steps 4 and 5 of makeiteasy (ifoupdate?) then took the transcoded main movie and put it into the main movie file and ran makeiteasy again. I then ran ifoedit on the entire main movie file and hit get vts sectors. I thought this would work. But in chapter one of the movie it started freaking out and what's her name was kicking ass over and over and over again LOL. I never moved the vts_0 file. I pointed everything to the right places i thought. Any ideas? I know it works, because your the second person who has told me they do it.
Also, on the output amount for the extra in DVD2one, what amount do you put? Do you decrease it 50 percent or so? So for example, the extras for Matrix were 1.87 GB!! So I put 800MB as the final in DVD2one for it.
Thx for your response bud

The problem with Matrix is that it is interleaved. When you have IFOEDIT create the new IFOs it has no way to know that. Also, when IFOUpdate brings it back in it has no way of figuring where the first ILVU VOBU end sector is without scanning the VOB files (which would take a long time) -- so it just clears it. I was working on a way to keep that info in a separate file -- but things keep changing so fast (DVD2one, IC7, DVD95Copy) that I don't know if it is worth the effort. The interleave flag stays set, though...

50% is what I generally use on extras.

I think IC7 will do Matrix... seems like I tried it, but I've tested so many lately that I'm really not sure.

Thx Jdobbs,
I have IC7. 19 bucks was a steal. I just am bummed out about how long it takes and also, if a movie has a huge amount of extras, you end up having to delete them anyway just to keep the main movie at 70 percent. By then I figure, why not just use DVD2one? lol. So, I guess, how do i figure out if a movie is interleaved and I cannot do the DVD2one trick on the main movie and the extras?

You'll find that interleaved movies aren't very common. You can see them in IFOEDIT (the cells are flagged) or IFOUpdate. In IFOUpdate's graphic display you'll see cells from different VOB/CELL IDs that aren't blocked together , for example V1C1,V2C1,V1C2,V2C2...
