I have an ATI AIW 8500DV that I bought for video capture. Namely VHS archiving. I'm using it in a Sony 2.4GHZ WinXP Home PC w/512MB DDR RAM 80GB HD set to DMA. The problem is that even when I thought I closed enough programs that seem to run in the background, I would get several frame drops per hour.
The solution I found was to download a program called "End It All (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,5845,00.asp)" from PCmag.com. Whenever you are ready to capture video (or burn a DVD, etc.) you can run "End It All" and it will show any programs that are running in the background and terminate them. I can now capture full 2 hour VHS programs at one time with 0 frame drops.
Just thought I would pass this along to anyone starting out & having frame drops.
