@Eyes-Only,
I just write this because I didn't like the way you ended the thread about who can purchase Scenarist. You have the power to do so, but in my opinion, not the right. At least not in the way you did it, simply saying that this is a 'silly go-nowhere thread'. Did you ever heard about politeness?
In any case I don't want to start a new discussion, so please close this one also...

well.. if eyes hadn't done it I would've eventually. This kind of discussion brings unwanted attention to this place and we'll do whatever it takes to avoid that. Any information that can directly link members of this board to illegal activity is bad news.
Plus you should re-read the forum rules again: http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm especially rule4. It says if you have a problem with another mod you try to resolve it in private. Consider yourself warned!

I can easily understand this. I was not complaining about anyone here
speculating about this subject in any way, I just complained about the unpolite way of closing the discussion.

Oh, you did it again... :(

You wanna talk about illegal software Fmazzanti, goto ISONEWS.
We dont indulge in that kind of chat here, thankyou. We just want to help people and find new ideas for backing up our own collection of DVD's. Speculate until your blue-in-the-face about the why's & wherefore's of software legality - just do it some place else eh?

I may be a little presumptous here, but I don't think that Eyes`Only nor Doom9 were trying to be rude towards you. The original thread was off-topic anyway.
As far as acting like policemen, they have to. This is the most complete resource I have found and I find all the other users help invaluable. I would hate to see it shut down because someone thought doom9.org was a warez site. Nowadays, that is an unfortunate reality. I am almost positive Doom9 and most of the other users would agree with me.
I am not trying to be rude either. I am bound by the same rules as you. Just follow the forum rules and don't take things so personally.
My two cents :)

Uhmm... this is going far beyond what I intended. As I can see, some of you understand what I say and some others don't (as Bluto). I'm not talking in this thrad about what can be officially discussed and what can not. I'm not talking about decissions made by mods. I'm just saying that POLITENESS is the way to go, and I believe that sometimes this is missing. In one thread I discussed with other people about expensive software and the kind of people that can afford it, then I found the thread closed saying essentially that the discussion was stupid. Then I complain and the only thing I get is a warning... would you say this is polite? There are many ways to say the same thing. It's not the message that worries me, it's the way it is said...
Ok, now it's me who's going to close this one. I won't reply anymore since I'm affraid this will cause me more trouble that any other thing.

I'm currently copying movies my brother has, and don't know where will I get the movies to copy in the future... Let's face it: everybody KNOWS most of the info in this site is used to do things that are partially or totally ilegal, but nobody wants to talk about it...
Are you kidding me? You deliberately state that you use illegal software, talk about copying DVDs that you don't own, and speculate that we have absolute knowledge that info is being used for illegal purposes (a fact that could get this board shut down, if it were in any way true!) and yet you have the gall to say that I'm 'rude'? Your comments have more rudeness in them and hurtful power behind them than my paltry 10-word comment. It should be obvious who was the wrong one here.
I was being nice by not striking you, and Doom9 was too. But now I feel that our leniency was in vain. Do not test us again. err... 'please'. :angry:

@Eyes-only,
I said I would not go on with this but that's enough for me.
a) I NEVER said I was using ilegal software. Please quote that part of any of my posts.
b) I NEVER said I was backing up movies FOR ME.
You read behind the lines things I didn't say. if you want to interprete them in any way, it's up to you, but it is definitely not written anywhere. Strike me if you want or let me in peace...
One thing I've learned from this one is that here we don't have the right to complain. I'll take note for the future (if I still have one in this board).

Enough is enough. You were warned, you deserve a #4 strike. If you continue this discussion you will get another one, rendering a suspension.

oddball,
Sometimes, yes it does. I don't think so in this case.
The mods have a valid reason not to continue certain discussions in their forums. That's why they are there for. It is for everyone's good, and yes at times, they do hurt feelings of some minorities that like to do things that are not perceived by majorities as needed for that forum.
If the discussion borders on illegality then they absolutely have right to stop it. There is no easy way to get around it. If they stop too abruptly, then it's their way of sending messages to those who start that kind of threads not to do that in the future.
Just my one cent.
Com'on people now let's move on from this topic...:) :) :)

One does have the right to complain, but as was pointed out, if there is a problem, it should be taken up in private with the moderators. Washing one's dirt in public is not appropriate.
These forums are here for the benefit of all and people are welcome to ask whatever questions they wish, so long as they've read the rules first. The moderators are here to help, guide and educate. However, we also have a duty to doom9 to protect and shield the site from unwanted attention. The moderators make an effort to be gentle with their touch and a strike is a last resort.
Anyway, this thread is unhelpful and a distraction so I'm closing it. If anyone wants to talk this through further, I'd be happy to chat to them offline.
