What a strange coincidence. I shop online from a discounter (no affiliation), and they just got some Xboxes today. http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=XBOX-R
733MHz, 8GB drive, the whole specs are at the link.

hmm ok only 8gig thats pretty sad the way i've read people talking it's like they have nice big hdd
guess they are probably ripping that toy hdd out and putting in something decent to replace it
but what about the os and software on it to make it all run the way the console does is it just a standard 2000 os that you can reinstall and off ya go or maybe making a ghost image and putting it back on?
or am i just dreaming :P

wow, I shop a compgeeks all the time but never noticed they were selling game systems, and the price is pretty nice too.
Thanks for the link mpucoder!

if you had tried the search button you would have
found my post about using the xbox as a divx player.
oh well
It makes a perfect divx, xvid, dvd, mp3 player but you
need to put in a mod chip first.
cost of mod
cheapmod= £10 + installation
xcuter2 lite = £30 + installation
difference = not a lot
All the software you need in on a cdr image called
Slayers Auto Installer v2.0 (widely available)
the xbox v1.1 being sold now have 10 gig drives in them
(but Microsoft only formats them as 8 gig so they look
the same as the v1.0 xbox with an 8 gig hd in)
You can insert any other HD you like upto 120 gig in size
and they network quite easily to PCs via their 100mb ethernet
port. I have a 40 gig HD in my xbox. (slayers sets up the whole
thing for you, you just unwrap the new HD, set jumpers to
cable select, then boot xbox from slayers auto installer on cdrw)
That seeems to have plenty
of space for a few games, loaded from original DVD and some
divx films. Playing from a dvd-r is a bit hit and miss, so
I usually load my films/music from the network or dvd-r onto
the hard drive then play them off HD......perfect every time then.
