Hello all,
this is my first post in this site!
I've recently bought a wintgo card, because I want to use my PC as a VCR. After browsing around for programs to use I tried PowerVCR2 and its MPEG2 recording mode which worked like a charm. However the output file was too big and I thought "what's the big deal?" I'll use Gordian Knot and make a nice divx file out of it. Tough luck!! The audio and video get more and more asynch towards the end of the divx file. Somebody suggested that this is due to the frame loss from powervcr2 due to the cpu intensive process that is mpeg2 encoding on the fly. Is this true?
Anyway I tried to use VirtualDub, but then whenever I try to select compression (or compatiblity) from the video menu I get an abnormal program termination due to something with the C++ libraries. The same message appears when I try to run IO_VCR and freevcr and choose compression for AVI_IO. The only program that I can choose compression is virtualvcr. However here I have another problem (program limitation more likely I'd call it), it doesn't auto split files so whenever I try to capture something it autostops at 4gb (I have fat32).
I'm going insane with all this sh** and especially with the "abnormal program termination errors" that keep popping up! Please show me a way out of this mess!

Thanks in advance

Find out if your card is supported by btwincap (http://btwincap.sourceforge.net) as bt878-based cards tend to have sucky drivers when you want to use VFW-based programs.

And, yes, capturing to MPEG-2 on the fly is a bad idea, unless your card supports it on hardware- and even then it's not worth it.

You shouldn't really ever capture straight to MPEG-2, but instead a lossless format (huffy, mjpeg, raw) and then re-encode.

Or, PowerVCR could suck for all I know. I use VirtualVCR - it has a dynamic audio resync. feature which makes sure the audio and video is synched.
