View Full Version : Output files too large using DVD2SVCD ver. 1.1.2 build 1

I've made every effort to find a similar post and if I've missed something I apologize.

Due to a recent hard drive crash I've upgraded from what I believe to have been DVD2SVCD 1.1.0 Build 1. I've used this version to successfully back-up at least 60 DVDs to DVD-R using the following settings:

FRAMESERVER TAB..... RESIZE TO set to DVD (720x480/576)

ENCODER TAB... ADVANCED SETTINGS..... CLOSE ALL GOPS and DVD COMPLIANT checked M=3 M/N=4

CC IMAGE TAB..... DON'T MAKE IMAGES checked

AUDIO TAB..... DO NOT CONVERT AUDIO checked

DVD2AVI TAB..... AUTOMATIC checked

BITRATE TAB..... MAX set to 8500 MIN set to 300 MAX AVG set to 4500 MIN AVG and WARN IF THE TOTAL BITRATE IS TOO HIGH are unchecked

I have been setting the CD SIZE according to the size output files I needed. If I needed 3.850 Gig I set all 6 boxes to 3850

Before I upgraded to DVD2SVCD ver. 1.1.2 build 1 everything always worked perfectly and I got the size files I asked for. The mpv file and the ac3 files always totaled just slightly less than I had asked for. Since upgrading I've run one movie. I set the CD size to 3850 and got an mpv file of 4,281,760 KB and an ac3 file of 426,269 KB. As you can see the mpv file alone is larger than the total of the two should be. I understand that there can be discrepancies if the ac3 bitrate is 448... which it was in the movie I just did... but can it cause this much of a problem? I can't say for sure but I would think that in my previous 60 DVDs I'd have have encountered 448 ac3 at least once and this is my first problem. Is this a problem with DVD2SVCD ver. 1.1.2 build 1 or did I miss something when I reinstalled DVD2SVCD this time? I have included my DVD2SVCD_LOG:

All problems belong in basics.

If there is more to the log please post the entire log and not just a selection of it.

Are you sure all the cd numbers are set to 1.
If you accidently have one section at 2 or higher and the movie falls into that section then it will try to make 2 cd's of 3850.

What is stopping the video from being larger is that you have set the limitor to 4500 and as you can see that is what is being used as the average bitrate in CCE.

One question. If you are backing up to DVD why do you have it as 16:9 encode as 4:3 add borders? With DVD's as long as you are authoring DVD's you can set it to Ananmorphic don't add borders.

That is the entire log. I stopped DVD2SVCD after pulldown because all I need are the ac3 and mpv files.

The problem is that the files are larger than I wanted... not smaller. As you can see I set the CD size to 3850 but the resulting ac3 and mpv files totaled 4.48 GB. The bitrate tab has been triple checked and it was set up exactly as I have many times in the past with no problem. The aspect ratio was an oversight but files encoded in this manner have always worked for me previously.

Right but until the BBmepg step which is after your step it is always one file. It doesn't get cut until BBmpeg. So if there is an error on your bitrate tab the file will be larger.

Make sure all your number of discs on the bitrate tab are set as USE 1. Just check that out first please, it will take all of about 2 seconds.

Tell me all the settings on your bitrate tab.
Example, but not what you should use:

0 to 50 USE 1 CD Size 3500
50 to 76 USE 1 CD Size 3500
76 to 100 USE 2 CD Size 3500
100 to 125 USE 2 CD Size 3500
125 to 163 USE 2 CD Size 3500

Etc...

Make sure that min. average on the Bitrate tab is not checked.
