I'm new here so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before. So I'll start with what I'm doing. I want to capture some clips from my movie dvds to make some music videos, well some I have no problems with and some I have lines across.

I'm using a averdvd ezmaker card (cheap but all I could afford after my videocard upgrade) through the s-video in. I don't really want to rip the whole movie down on my hard disk for about 3 minutes...not to mention I don't have the room anyways. I'm wondering if its macrovision, but doesn't that cause crazy color shifts and distortion? If it is macrovision, how can I fix this particular problem...the pictures don't show how bad it really is though. Well thanks for any help...again if this has been posted already I appologize.

Looks like a cable/source issue to me. Have you tried switching to another source for both input and material, e.g. composite and vcr? Why don't you just use Smart Ripper and copy only the wanted streams/chapters of those dvds to your HD?

I'm using Cyberlinks powervcr II ver.3.0 (not sure whats a good capture program though). Though it will do the same if I capture it in Virtual Dub or Adobe Premiere. I've tried in avi, mpeg1, mpeg2 the resolutions that I've used were 640x480 and 720x480.
The weird thing is I can drop the dvd Gladiator and it will have those lines, but if I drop a one of my anime dvds in I have no lines. When I get home I'll post one of the other dvd captures to show it.

fellaw: I'm not sure what smart ripper is, sorry just started playing with capturing clips.

It definitely seems to be an issue of the dvd player you're using(maybe macro vision but I'm not sure). But why capture a dvd any(and the lossy)way when you can copy it to your harddisk flawlessly? I advice you to just read the General part of the forum here. Just to make the first step: Smart Ripper is a software which can copy either the whole dvd or only some chapters to the hd. There are several others which can do this, too. The Guides and Download sections of Doom9 should also answer many questions related to that topic.
