Hi Everybody,
I've tried almost everything to get subs on my svcds. Provided that my standalone player (JVC XVN5) supports them, I basically rip the dvd with dvd2svcd with "rip subs" option activated, sub stream "english" selected and sub type "svcd".
At the end of the whole process, very slow but glad to pay this way the cost of quality, I get the two or three "muxed_subbed.mpg" files, which should mean all the svcd creation has gone right. Then I burn this subbed.mpg files with Nero burning rom v5.5.10.7b set to Pal svcd, "standard compliant" option flagged and compatibility settings "entryvcd" (I tried once with "entrysvd", still no subs viewed...)Result:no trace of any kind of subtitles. I've also made an attempt with dvd2svcd built-in image creator, then burnt with nero as well...no way again, the only difference was that I could have the elapsed time displayed on my JVC. What am I wrong with???
Thanks so much in advance to anyone who'll help.

Don't let make Nero the SVCD out of the MPG, although this works in some cases, it often gives problems. To be on the safe side always let DVD2SVCD make images and burn them.
Are you sure your player supports SVCD-subs? Not all do this, so check at www.vcdhelp.com or in the sticky in this forum if your player can show them.
If your player can and it still don't work, even with image creation by DVD2SVCD, please post your logfile, so we can check your settings.
btw: Please also read the stickie about how to make a good post and edit your title.

You title was a bit off forum rules, but not that bad. I edited it to comply. It just had too many special characters. We like it neat here. Not a big deal, but try to comply in the future.

I completely agree with Labersack's comments. The only thing I can add is you should be burning the BIN/CUE files and not the mpg file, esecially when subs and chapters are wanted. There are many ways to do this. The most compatable is decribed in the Q+A.

Other ways include:
VCDEasy
CDRWIN
Nero Burn image off the file menu

Definetly check that your player supports subs at vcdhelp.

If none of this helps and the list at vcdhelp says your player works fine with subs post your log file using cut and paste.

Hello guys,
first of all thanks for your attention and for answering me so quickly, on my side I'll take the advice and try to avoid special characters in the future. Dealing of subs, I've tried to let dvd2svcd make directly the image, then burnt with cdrwin v4.0, but still all seemed useless. Thus I downloaded vcdeasy, (in spite of the name, I had to familiarize with it just a little before running it for the first time) made an image with it and burnt after facing the known problems with the cdr writer driver. This way I just got a much longer process without seeing anything more than movie images on the screen(tried also here with "entrysvd and mpgav" option activated). On the other hand I'm almost sure JVC XVN5 is supporting subs, not only because I checked it at vcdhelp.com, but also because during svcd reading I have only 3 options active on the osd menu and the 4 channel subtitle is definitely one of them (beside audio channel and time mode, while the other options active during normal dvd play are all grayed out). In the end I thought that the only thing was to follow again your suggestions and here's my log:
Thanks one more either it'll solve the problem or not...

I think based on what you said that you are trying VCDEasy in a tougher way then you need to. VCDEasy will burn the Bin/Cue files. There is no reason to have it create images or anything. Just go to the CDRAO section.

I looked at VCDhelp.com and I am a little skepticle based on those reports that it actual works with subs. If you look at the comments only two people say it can and then they never mention it in their comments. Even though we push the DVD list at vcdhelp.com sometimes you have to take what they say with a grain of salt. It's easy to press the wrong button when submitting the report.

If you cannot get it to work with SVCD subs try CVD subs and if that doesn't work after burning the image I would dare say that vcdhelp.com is wrong and your player does not support subs.
