View Full Version : How to author a DVD with NTSC and PAL clips?

I have tried to author a DVD with both NTSC and PAL clips.

SpruceUp tells there is a region mismatch and the DVD Workshop tells me
that the clips would produce a 10 GB disc-image.

What I have inside my project are 3 NTSC SVCD:s, whose header I changed with DVD-patcher to 352x480, so the file is now accepted by the authoring program. But the issue of having 2 TV-standards on one disc hasn't proven to be successful. How could I manage to do this? Is there some authoring program that would allows this/has someone made some patcher that would make the authoring program think it is handling valid data?

Thank you for any info,

You can not mix NTSC and PAL on the same disk. It is not allowed (nor would it work).

Ok, too bad. I thought the might be some nice patcher as the one enabling SVCD:s to be incorporated into the DVD. Thank you for the info.

There IS a way to do this but it involves a little trickery to make it work.

1st: Author a Titleset with a PAL stand-in for the NTSC. You have to set up a multiple movie project in the likes of DVD maestro, this will out put each "movie" as a separate VOBSet.

2nd: Author the NTSC as separate project and copy the VOB and control files to a safe place. This can be a little tricky the first time you do it.. you have to make fake menu structures to ensure that the NTSC clip will access any menus etc in the same way that the PAL did when it complets playback... a fake menu structure using stills usually works ok..

3rd: Delete the stand-in VOBset from the PAL author, rename the NTSC VOBSet and control files to match and put them in place.

4th: Use get VTS sectors in IFOEdit to update the sector info of the combined PAL / NTSC VOBsets

I got onto this by accident.. as I re-authed a PAL title that made use of NTSC trailers in a separate VOBset. This demonstrated that it could be done.. I just had to work out HOW to do it after that....

Just a warning, though. Mixing NTSC and PAL makes the disk non-compliant. Many players will not play it properly.

the only way to create a Disc with NTSC and PAL on it, and have the disc properly playable is double sided.
