The day in a life with DRU500AX

I bought this drive last week. the reason i want to get good deal on blank's with rebate's some time's DVD-R is on sale some time's DVD+R is on sale. I also have a Pioneer AO4 and I have burner Memorex and Khypermedia with no problem's at all. The DRU500AX can not burn these disc I thought I was the only person having problem's think I got a bad burner. This is a good site to see what media is good

I install the sony CD Record now DX I had a 1.5gig of free space on my C: drive it took up my hole C: drive do not use the software that come's with this drive the it's not the software of the companie's but sony made a bad macromedia CD very buggy Autoload DVD disc. my friend has the DRU500A and can burn any disc you but in it. I real think sony put a cheep laser in this drive some people are getting good one other people are not getting buggy drive's can not burn Memorex. If my Pioneer AO4 can burn Memorex and Khypermedia with no problem then then the sony should to Also want to state that Memorex and Khypermedia are the same media if you look at the case's they are the same also there both 1X DVD-R's. So I would say that Memorex and Khypermedia are buying them from another company and stick there name's on it. Now I know this media is a little cheep but it not bad these disc work on all my DVD player that the AO4 burned Sony just need to put a strong lense in the drive or fix some bug's

I can burn Kyhpermedia fine at 2x with my DRU-500A

I got another DRU500AX and can burn 2X kpermedia if it's set up right. I was at a friend's house I put my DRu500AX in a firewire case it burned at 2X when I got home I hook it up to IDE 2 slave it crash's at 99% burn's fine at 1X I'll test it on IDE 2 master and see if that help's. Some of the DRu500AX have a buggy lense some time's you get a good one.

I'm not sure about Khypermedia (bought 2 didn't play well in my stand alone so never bought anymore) but I can tell you that Memorex DVD-Rs are like a box of chocolates, You never know what your going to get.

I've gone through a few dozen Memorex DVD-Rs. Bought one the first time, worked great so I went back and bought all CompUSA had (they were on sale) then after that sometimes I got pixelation sometimes they worked. After checking the discs with AdvdInfo I found out they were not all by the same manufacture. For one I would recommend that you use AdvdInfo to identify discs in question. I think it's odd that you are having problems burning them. What software are you using? Have you tried ImageTools? When I installed my A05 I couldn't get anything to burn using RecordNow Max 4.10 which I had been using with no problems with my A03. I did a test burn with ImageTools worked fine. Then I upgraded to RNM to 4.5 and it worked fine. So try ImageTools (you can have it run a test so you don't waste a disc) if it works fine then fine out what software (and version) your friend uses.
