I've had good luck with inexpensive Meritline DVD-Rs (~$1.50 each) that burn 2X with my SD-R5002. Are there any inexpensive 2X double sided DVD-Rs (9.4GB)?

I heard that there are no plans for a dual layer burner at all since I read somewhere that it's just two DVD5s pressed together.

Just because you don't read.
Dual layer burner and media does not exists and probably won't for a couple of years, if it exist one day.
Dual sided 4,7 exists. Only DVD-R dual side, nothing new.
And sorry Karl bem, don't know about cheap Dual sided DVD-R.
But try new guide from Doom9 to put everything on one side. Greatest guide available.

PrimeDisc dual-sided (9.4gb) DVD-R's are actually Ritek's, and work just fine at 2x (using the right firmware).
