View Full Version : Movie Stops on Playback of Split DVD

I remember seeing this problem on the dvdxcopy forum site once, but I never ran into the problem with my split dvds with ifoedit till now. I split a movie with ifoedit, and there's a spot during the movie where it freezes. If you fast forward it past that spot for a couple of seconds it's fine again. Can anybody explain why it does that, and any possible solution, if there is any? Dvdxcopy's website said to do the same thing, just to fast forward it ahead a few seconds, didn't give an explanation as to why it did that or a solution. The dvd still plays ok other than that pause where you need to fast forward it for a few seconds, but it would be nice to figure out a solution. Thanks.

Maybe it's a layer break.

Ok,I'll check that and do a search for that on layer break in other threads. If it is, is there anything you can do about it?

Ah, I see there was a solution to it! And by you. Thanks!

Well, maybe the answer isn't there. It seems it left off unanswered and not working.

Hey 2COOL, in the VTS overview, PGC1, it does show a layer break, but not until chapter 12, an hour and 10 minutes into the movie. Where my movie pauses is in the first 10 minutes of the movie. Could it still be the layer break, or something else? Thanks.

Here's the VTS OVerview and VTS_PGCITI for PGC1:

So if it is indeed the layer break point, change that 2 to an 8? Do you do that to every movie that you see the layer break in, or just the movies that you come across that pause during them? Thanks 2COOL!

Hey 2COOL, in the split discs from ifoedit, I see no layer break in there in the main title ifo. So it must be something else.

Maybe you should try to use DVDToolbox ? :D

I did actually! I also got the same pause in the movie at the exact same spot. I don't think it's a layer break anymore. It has to be something else. I'm stumped though.

I found the solution! On my first burn, in addition to the movie I only added files 02 through 04 to get the menu and movie to play. On this 2nd test, I added files 02 through 07 and that seemed to fix it! There must have been something in those other additional files I added that it needed. :)
I think that should be the first rule when splitting discs, add all other files you can to the discs (in complete number sets). That at times fixes the menus, and now I see it can also fix the playback of some movies!

Update 3/3/03- I thought I had fixed it but it still has some problems. Man that movie is the mother of mothers to burn! If I find the solution will post an update.

Ok, I think I may have found the soltuion to Kate & Leopold once again. I will test it and let you know. The part it has been skipping is now there. I will burn it to a DVDR and fully test it. This may be a new method of splitting certain or all movies:
The only boxes I had checked was Split to 2 DVDRs, create subfolders, and autocopy menu files to destination. Maybe correct navigation pack, and the lluv/angle stuff in the xpert side was messing it up. Jasmin, have you tried splitting discs with only those boxes checked?

You posted the same question in the other thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44830) ! I replied there.

Yeah, I know! I couldn't decide where to post it! I'll just keep it in the other thread.

Does anyone know why there are pauses in some split dvds? Does it have something to do with the navigation of the movie? Please help. 2 movies now with pauses in them: Kate & Leopold and Jurassic Park.
