View Full Version : subrip 1.16 + Maestro: subtitles distorted by movie (possible bug?)

When the subs on the compiled project have a light background, problems arise. e.g. say there is a white table behind the subtitles, it affects them (they sort of blur/glare).

However, the same movie and subs ripped with subrip 1.14 don't have this problem.

I took a set of subs from a different movie and tried them on the afforemention video, and the same problem occurred.

Here's a comparison, look at the word "the"

Subrip 1.14

subrip 1.16

I used the same contrast settings, etc.

Solved the problem by using black antialias of 15, which incidentally makes the subs look like those in the original DVD (which have a thick black outline).

The issue still stands in that the subrip 1.14 produced subs don't distort in the absense of the thick black outline.

Have you used custom colors / contrast for the 1.16 subtitle?
Or have you overwritten the .son-file header with some default?

As I recall I used 0 background (obviously) 0 antialias 9 outline and 15 font. I changed the .son header to achieve that result, with the 1.16 output.

That was the reason why you have got distorted subtitle/image.
Since v1.15 subrip detects and uses original colors and contrasts.

You can override it (custom clr/ctr or "patched" header) but you have to beware of setting incorrect value(s).

About the patcher header - it is not the best solution, many new DVDs change colors and contrast in the course of the movie.

Okay, thanks. I'll go back to 1.16 :)
