Just wondering if this works and if it allows compression to fit
a single dvdr.
Any input appreciated.

DVDXcopy will not do any compression to make a DVD9 fit on a DVD+/-R/RW. It does a complete copy of the DVD without any recompression. So, if your original source is less than 4.7Gig, then it will only need 1 DVD+/-R. But, if its larger, then it will take 2.

I just tried out InstantCopy and had good success with a couple of movies. InstantCopy does do recompression, so it will make a larger movie fit on 1 disc. But, you sacrifice some quality to get the movie smaller. It will allow you to select which audio/subs you want, so you can save some space to make a movie fit on 1 disc with minimal compression.

Check out the DVD2One and Instant Copy forum on this site.

Hi.. I used to use DVD X Copy and i was happy with the results.

But, yesterday, i found a great bit of software that squeezes any DVD9 (double density) disc onto a 4.7g DVD+R

http://www.dvd95copy.net

I managed to backup my original DVD of Tron (Bonus Disc)
containing a huge amount of Menu's & Features..

I ripped the original disc ot hard drive, and ran 'dvd95copy'

It took about 1hr 30mins to re-encode files to fit on 1 disc..

I tried the disc out, and it plays fine....no compression loss at all.

Hope this helps ..

Hello Renegade

Thanks for the tip.
Does this program allow you to drop the files you dont want so you can burn at a higher bit rate.

Thanks!!!
Alan.

It allows you to choose what audio/subtitle's you want to keep..

I haven't noticed any problems with compression at all..

I'm really happy with the results.., i've been searching for a program like this for about a month

It's great!

I have been using DVD X Copy(paired with a Sony DRU 500A) for about 2 months now, and I can honestly say its the easiest 1:1 backup program I have ever seen. It is truly a single click program. It is also true that most DVD's do not fit on one disc, since I have a 5 disc changer this is not an issue. 321 studios is about to release a platinum version of this program that is supposed to fit any DVD onto one disc. I do not know what kind of compression they are going to use but it will be interesting to see. My major complaint about other programs was the amount of time that is required to render the movie. The max amount of time it takes me to make a 1:1 copy of a DVD(even if it takes 2 discs) is about 58 minutes. That is one click and a disk change.

As suggested... i tried DVD95Copy and I found it is very easy. I made a back-up of Bad Boys, which is a 8GB DVD. Being able to fully copy is awesome, but sadly the quality is not always as good as CCE. I noticed that in dark scenes there was a quite a bit of pixelation. Such a sad toss-up.

It turns out that the DVD95Copy i made looks perfect in my PS2 and only looks grainy in my Panasonic DVD player... very odd.

You could also try the cheaper DVD-Cloner (http://www.dvd-cloner.com)

It is a DVD9 to 2xDVD-R solution, near enough identical to DVD-X-Copy, except it is $40 cheaper.

I was quite displeased to find out that DVD X Copy does not dezone...
ANybody knows how to copy a DVD5 to a target DVD-/+R with a different zone or no zone at all??
Thanks!
