OK I have this avi file:

It's 512x384, 23 fps, DivX Codec, 150 MB. When I convert this file I take the following steps.

1. Open VirtualDub (Latest release)
2. Open my avi
3. Set audio to full processing mode
4. Compression to none
5. Set audio to 44,1 or 44100
6. Save WAV
7. Open latest release of TMPGenc.
8. I use SuperVideoCD PAL even though my source is a NTSC film, because when I choose NTSC it will be black and white on my television.
9. I choose CBR 2520 kbs 35min/650mb, then I put on Next.
10. I open my avi file.
11. I open my wav file I made with VirtualDub.
12. Video Type on non-interlace
13. Aspect Ratio on 1:1 VGA
14. I don't change anything at Source range, clip frame and noise reduction.
15. Other settings, advanced, I leave everything alone except for Video Arranged method, I tried several like "Full Screen", "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio", and "4:3".
16. I choose 80 min cd, And let the mpeg be 50% of the 80 minutes CD, so I can get two episodes on one disc.
17. And then I start encoding.

The problem is now that when I playback this SVCD on my DVD-Player Í miss something from my screen. It looks like it's fullscreen only my television seems to small (even though it's a very big one). I can see this because I miss half of my subtitling. It is really hard for me to explain my problem because I'm not from America or an other english speaking country.

The output is btw 480x576, I tried different setups, 4:3, Full Screen, Full Screen (Aspect Ratio) but my endproduct always stays 480:576.

I hope I don't get any flames, because my previous topic got flamed on. This is all the information I have, If you need more plz ask. And plz don't close this topic again like my last one in DVD2SVCD forum. BTW I didn't see any stickies on this forum. I look though out the forum and couldn't find a solution.

THX in advance.

I'm at work now and don't have tmpgenc installed here, hope I can help.

Did you try, under video type (output) 4:3, under advanced (input) 1:1 VGA? Another thing to try is, turn on preview, look at the display, if it looks ok let it go. Otherwise, abort encoding, try another setting under advanced (input), i.e. keep aspect ratio. Restart. You can also get a good idea of the output just by trying different settings and previewing in the clip frame area under advanced.

IŽll try some alternative settings later this evening. Thx !!! IŽll post my outcome asap.

PS I tried 4:3, and my mpg is 480x576 that can't be 4:3 ;). I always use 1:1 VGA. I'll try to change the 1:1 VGA into other settings.

I believe for proper playback on your settop player and TV you will need to set the output as either 4:3 or 16:9.

Well 4:3 does not work the output is still 480x576. It's definately not 16:9.

You have got to think of it in another way. SVCD is either 480x480 NTSC or 480x576 PAL. See http://www.dvdrhelp.com/svcd

If I am doing a dvd they are 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL. These are output resolution specs. If you have an input that is different you should be able to set "keep aspect ratio" or "center" or what ever is required to get the proper letterbox output.

So if I do an SVCD from a 16:9 NTSC DVD source and want to playback on a 4:3 TV, I would set my input as 16:9 NTSC, keep aspect ratio and my output as 4:3 NTSC.

Ah I didn't know that it always is 480x576, I'll try some different things and post my outputs.
