From what I've read it seems CCE uses vfw drivers for AVI files?
But I don't get how it is able to read AVI files larger than 2 gigs now. CCE 2.66 has no problem reading my 10 gig DV AVI file. is it still using the vfw driver to read it?

I just want to be sure it using the canopus vfw driver i installed and not the microsoft directshow drivers.

CCE 2.64+ have native DV decoder, as long as the fourcc of the file is MSDV (which is the microsoft DirectShow DV decoder).

CCE 2.62+ supports DirectShow AVI's, but only if they have a VFW codec available for decoding, and with that version i was exporting a DV avi from prem6, then changing the fourcc code to CDVC (Canopus DV codec), which is vfw.

im pretty sure that CCE will never use the ms DV codec to decode, cause it will use its own for MSDV, but will use the Canopus vfw codec when the fourcc is CDVC.
