Hi,
I encoded my home video with TMPGEnc using 2 VBR, avg 6500, max 8000, min 2000 and highest quality motion search(took 10 hours for 40 minute video). Now I see that whenever camera moves, there are trails of the frames left. Like if I moved my arm in video, if I pause the play I would see two arms. It doesn't happen when I pause the 8GB AVI at the same place.
It plays OKish on computer but on standalone DVD player it produces un-bearable trailing effect.
What's wrong? Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

this is a result of choosing a blend deinterlace. you shouldnt need to deinterlace your footage to create a DVD to watch on your standalone.

I used the default TMPGEnc settings for NTSC DVD. How do I find if I am doing de-interlace or not? Encode mode is by default "interlace" and source type in "Advanced" is interlaced as well. De-interlace under Advanced is not checked.
please help with some more details. I am new to TMPGEnc.
Really appreciate your help.

first, please dont bump a thread so soon, not everyone is on here every day.
second, if you used an avisynth script, paste the contents in here (or however you got the dvd to tmpegenc), and attach screen shots of the two main tabs in tmpgenc. and if possible, try to take a screen shot of a motion scene (where you can see two hands) on the computer.

Sorry auenf!
I found the solution to the problem. I unchecked the flag "detect scene change" under "GOP Structure" and it worked well. No more ghosting in fast actions. I think it was trying to put too many I pictures during fast moving scenes.

Auenf, unrelated question. Please answer.
How do I set "return" from a chapter to its menu that triggered it in DVDMaestro? I have not been able to figure it out.

you can set the 'menu key' connection for that particular chapter to a specific button on a specific menu, which is i think what your asking.

surprisingly, 'menu key' is there only for first chapter, rest of the chapters only 'end action' is there. Is there a reason for that?

version 2.9, build 2915a-1234. is that 'a' for alpha?

Enf, this problem didn't appear in a new project. I could see 'menu key' as you mentioned.
one last question: having a mp2 audio works with dvd projects, is it really necessary to have a AC3 track? AC3 encoding with BeSweet introduces some noise in very high pitched portions of the track.

for NTSC, one of the following two audio formats MUST exist on the disc to be compliant:
AC3
PCM
for PAL, there is a third, M2A.
if you are creating a NTSC disc for your own personal use, and you standalone does support M2A, then you can ignore the warning from Maestro (i think its only a warning)

but its kinda strange. I had this DV footage from alaska and the wind produced terrible speaker noise during wind when I encoded AC3 track and added it to the NTSC DVD I created. Then I just removed the AC3 track and added directly mp2. Maestro gave me a warning. The sound was as it was on the DV footage, it didn't kill my speakers (and my ears) with terrible screams. The DVD had sound on my standalone.
NTSC DVD needs to have at least one AC3 or PCM track on it, does it mean that the DVD that I created and which works on my standalone may not work on another standalone? I am slightly amazed and confused that it works.

NTSC standalones do not require a mpeg audio decoder in the machine, so yes it may not work in others.
the other problem you might come across with m2a is that lots of people use only the digital connection from their dvd player to their amp, which will work perfectly fine for DD, PCM and (if the amp supports it) DTS, but not many decoder/amps work with m2a.

That means I have to put PCM on DVD. but that makes my VOBs larger, right?
any idea why BeSweet is giving me distortion during high pitched portions of the sound in the mp2->AC3? are there any parameters I need to adjust for this? I would really appreciate some help here.

you might want to check in the Audio Encoding forum about the ac3 problem with BeSweet, otherwise you will have to resort to PCM for full compatibility. M2A might be good enough if its a project just for yourself (and you are sure M2A works on your setup).
