Noob Q: Does my XBox and PS2 Have to be modded to play backup games?

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else. I've tried to do a search on the forums for the subject, but I keep getting a network error message. Also, what is the best program to backup games?

To play backed up games yes. To play backed up movies no.

Both consoles need to be modded? Also, if I mod my console, what's the best program for backing up my games? Or do you use the same programs that one uses for movies?
