I hope I'm using the correct terminology. Here goes. I just want something basic (preferably free) that I can use to capture video that is streaming on my computer. I have one that only works on Real Player but I want something that works with all media types. Something that I can capture while the video is still playing. Another example, I have Total Recorder, which I use to 'record' streaming audio.
Is there anything out there that some one can recommend? :)

This doesn't directly answer your question, but, if you were to look in Doom9's "Capturing Video" forum, you'll note the Sticky thread, Capture FAQ, Update 10/24/02 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32575).
You might start there. The faq covers a wide variety of capturing technologies ... though the bulk of it is on analog capture using video capture cards and related software.

It does. I wasn't sure if I could just download a program or if I had to buy something, so it makes a little more sense. Thanks.

I just got StreamBox VCR from someone and I was trying to figure out how to use it, and as far as I can tell it only works with RealPlayer. :\

Yes, use SDP for WMV

You mean capture it in RealPlayer then change it to a format I want? That, I think I'm able to do. See the way I get the files is by going to the link, right-clicking and checking properties then taking the address and pasting it in VCR. If it's an address other then RealPlayer then it won't work. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I'm pretty much learning as I go.
