Is any one having similar problems with the Hauppauge WinTV PVR250 card. It has a hardware mpeg encoder. I can record to mpeg in various formats - It's DVD PAL I'm interested in as I'm trying to convert my VHS tape library onto DVD. The problem is that the timestamp in the produced mpeg2 files frequently resets to zero and the resulting DVD only plays up to the first reset. Also the files won't process because of this. I used DVD2AVI on one and first noticed the timestamp resetting - this never happens when I've used DVD2AVI to process VOBs when I'm backing up DVDs.

Even the software supplied by Hauppauge won't process the mpegs. I emailed Hauppauge several days ago but haven't had a response.

Can anyone give me any help here - is there any software that can parse the files and correct the timestamp. I'm happy with the video quality of the mpegs and the card works very well as a TV Tuner. I've done everything suggested in the Hauppauge FAQs - most recent updates.

I'm using Windows ME on Gateway PIII 1.0GHz with loads of RAM and HDD.

Hi,

I've just purchased this card myself. Seems like a good pience of hardware. I haven't had a chance to capture any programs myself, but will be trying tonight. I'll let you know how I get on. I'll probably try capturing in DVD 8Mbit/s rather than the disk space costly 12Mbit/s (CBR) mode!

Thanks

I've tried full capture PAL at DVD Standard Play mode quality and there seems to be no issues for me. The software 'nanoPEG' Mpeg editor doesn't work at all though on longer files! I've just used TMPGEnc to edit then re-encode the.mpg files the PVR 250 produces. Or alternatively you can use ULead DVD workshop which is OK although a little simple. Both programs need to completey re-encode the video.
All video and audio remains in sync as well so I guess i'm just lucky.

I'm now using MPEG2Cut V1.15 to edit the mpegs which works fine. Reducing the latency setting of my ATI Rage AGP card has improved things. I'm using PVAStrumento to demux the mpeg and then Spruceup to author and add chapters then burn with Nero - working quite well now.

PVAStrumento seems quite good at correcting any errors in the original mpeg as it's demuxing. I think part of my difficulty is because I'm running my PC as a host via WinProxy to enable my daughter to get internet access via my cable modem. Probably need to think about a new PC as all this DVD stuff is stretching my 1GHz CPU.

Just FYI I am doing NTSC captures and at first I had sync issues AFTER editing out commercials UNTIL I switched to the "Program" setting instead of the "DVD" setting I am using CBR. now all my captures are 100% in sync after editing using ulead dvdfactory.:)
