This is a quite unusual issue. I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing this. I've useed a few brands of DVD-R (Maxell, Pioneer, Apple, Memorex, Verbatim and some generics). I recently noticed that some of my Verbatims from a few months ago now have this strange fogging/clouding effect on the recoding side (noticeable from that side). I've been burning cds since 95 and have only encountered this issue with some Sony CD-Rs (Gold and Greens back in 97). When playing back these discs some of them have minor pixelization here and there. Could this be layer seperation/DVD Rot? So far none of my other discs are doing this.

From searching the forum it would seem that many people are happy with the Verbatiums. Is this just a bad batch or have others experienced this?

Sounds like a bad batch. If it's happening to a lot of your verbatim discs give them a call as they have a good replacement policy.

This may put some more light on the fogging issue:

It's a little older article but seems like the cloud/fog is a known problem to the manufacturing people... .

Thanks for your response, but the article seems to refer to manufactured (non recordables). I have seen that with production discs (especially AOL). The discs in question didn't have this haze when I first purchased them so this concerns me.
