View Full Version : Easiest Way to Get MPEG-2 Clips from VOBs

Learned Colleagues:

I'm posting this one in Newbie Land since it's not a terribly tough one, but I'll be damned if I can find a solution in the guides or the forums.

Question: What's the easiest way to pull short clips, less than 2 minutes, from VOBs and have them come out as either MPEG or AVI?

You know...you want to have some classic clips ("You don't frighten us English pig dogs!!!" "Emergency! Everybody to get from street!" "Mongo only pawn in game of life.", etc) so I can spice up my PowerPoint presentations.

My current technique involves far too many steps. Is there a quick utility out there?

Thanks,
Zep

For .avi output, use DVD2AVI

Open individual .vob, or an entire set, as needed.

Use the [ and ] buttons in the window to select the scene.

Demux the audio at the same time you build a .d2v project. I'd use Gknot to create DivX video and MP3 audio, either to a specific file size or to a specific video bitrate.

I hope that's enough guidance. If you need MPEG-2 output, you'll have to use tools like bbMPEG, which I don't use often enough to help with this. (I capture in MPEG-2, but then convert to DivX in .avi files.)

Thanks for responding...Yes, that's what I've been doing, but I'm looking to avoid the demux/encode/remux thaing using all those associated tools.

I'm looking for something that does it for you. I tried the DVDPro demo, but it had FUBARed sound synching.

I used a program called ChopperXP...

1. Load VOB into ChopperXP and save the clip you want as a VOB

2. Rename the saved VOB to a MPEG and it will play fine in Windows Media player, NO JOKE!!!

That's all folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

of course Imperial Zeppelin,NO JOKE!!!

you can rename the .vob to .avi ,when the prog can't open a .mpeg!!!
and maybe don't need to use ChopperXP....only rename!
works too.
