View Full Version : Are the new 4x discs better or just faster than the 2x discs?

I bought a pioneer 105 burner and I bought a 25 pack of 2x riteks and my burner wouldn't even recognize the discs. It will recognize some dvd-rw discs and some fujifilm dvd-rs that I have. I was wondering if I should try the 4x ritek discs? If the only difference between the 2x or 4x is just speed then I won't waste my time. But if the 4x discs are better all around then i'll give them a shot. Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks for any help.

If your burner won't even recognise the ritek discs, then I'd seriously look into the fact they may not be true riteks.

well.. Riteks are not officially approved 2x discs by Pioneer so go figure. There's in fact no standard for 2x discs whereas there's a standard for 4x discs. Therefore I'd say it's safer to buy something corresponding to a published standard.

Therefore I'd say it's safer to buy something corresponding to a published standard. These 2x Riteks certainly correspond to the public standard for 1x speed DVD-R(G) discs...so if they fail at 1x, there are exactly 2 possible reasons: bad discs (not true Ritek, faked ID) or broken writer

My dad just bought a Pioneer 105 and it works fine with Ritek G03's (1x) media. So hopefully for you, you just got bogus Ritek's.
