View Full Version : DVD2ONE cuts out a chapter from backup, anybody else?

Made a backup copy of "The Matrix." Selected to keep english subtitle and AC3-6ch sound. Output directory 4.30 gigs. When I watched the movie I noticed that the fight scene between Neo and Morpheus in the karate training room was missing. When I play the movie, it just skips over it completley. Audio is still synchronized, however. Does anybody have this problem as well?
Now I am freaking out because I have made numerous backups with dvd2one. Are they all "missing" and chapter here and there????

I don't hink it's missing from your movie. If you'll play the vob file as a media file (PowerDVD?) you can confirm whether the footage is actually missing, or, as I have seen with some stand-alone players it may be a compatability issue between the media and player.
I saw the same thing happen in an RCA player my brother-in-law got a really good deal on.
Good Luck!

DenFussell, thank you for the response. I did not burn this to dvd. I tested it in powerdvd before burning and noticed that it skipped the chapter completely. Happens at the 50 minute mark.
Any other ideas? Should I burn it and maybe it will "magically" play in my DVD player?

Try playing just the VOB file where you suspect the information is missing as a media file. To do this, open the video_ts folder and doubleclick the vob file. PowerDVD will play this file without relying on ifo information. If your PowerDVD isn't the default player, left click on the 'Source Select' button on the control panel and choose media files. Then select the vob file and play it. This will tell you whether the info is really missing.
If it really is missing, then you need help from DVD2One crew. I would suspect problems with the ripped ifo files.
Good Luck!

I will try this when I am at home, don't have the files in front of me at work. Am I supposed to open the VOB files from the directory that dvd2one has processed, or the VOB's straight from decryption? Thanks again.

I would look first at the DVD2One processed vob, then the original ripped file.
I don't know how you rip your files, but I have always had excellent results with Smartripper.
Good Luck!

tingwc,
Here's another method, using DVD2AVI, to check if all your chapters are there. It's pretty simple.
____________________________________________________________
1. Use IFOedit to open up your movie's IFO. Go to VTS_0?_0.IFO/VTS_PGCITI/VTS_PGC_1. Scroll down to the bottom to Cell Position in VOB. Each cell is a chapter.
Find out which chapter you want to inquire on. You said you were missing a chapter. When you know it, write down it's VOB ID and Cell ID on a notepad. e.g. Chap 5: VOB 1/CELL 5
____________________________________________________________
2. Use DVD2AVI and open up your first movie VOB (VTS_0?.1.VOB). Keep all following VOBs that were detected and press OK. Your preview window should enlarge for your movie.
____________________________________________________________
3. Press F6 for your Statistics window that will pop up to the right of preview window. In your statistics window's video section, you will see VOB and CELL ID fields. Hmmm...what do you need these for?:sly:
____________________________________________________________
4. You'll see a slide bar at the bottom of your preview window. Slide the bar to the right with your mouse and you will see your VOB and CELL ID fields change accordingly. Whatever you're currently viewing, the VOB CELL ID fields will tell you what chapter it's in. With the data you wrote down in step 1, go to your chapter and check it out

NOT
PGCN is PGC number, PGN is program number within that PGC. To get the VobID and CellID you must go to the proper PGC according to PGCN, look at the program map for entry number PGN. That will give you the entry cell number, which is the index of the first cell in that program into the cell position information table.
BUT - why go through all that, just get the PGC you want, and note all the cells in the cell position information table (it's the last table, called "cell position" in IfoEdit). They are listed by VobID/CellID.

Well I opened the VOB's from the output directory of dvd2one file, and the chapter was still missing. I will attempt to strip the original using IFOedit and see what happens.

Problem solved. I used smartripper to rip the DVD and it was fine. I guess something is wrong with DVDDECRYPTOR. No more dvddecryptor for me unless it's for single layer ISO's.

I used DVD Decrypter 3.1.4.0 and ripped the Matrix... the default movie-only VOBs (ie. not the entire DVD). Then I transcoded with DVD2One 1.0.2 (selected 1st angle, AC3 5.1 and no subtitles) and that fight scene is there - chapter 15.

IMO, this really should be a case closed situation as ripping the right way was the easy fix on this problem. I can't believe they're still going about this topic in the official DVD2One forum.

Not closed entirely... because with what tingwc said about his experience, one may be lead to come to the conclusion that DVD Decrypter is a bad program. I did a test to form a 2nd opinion, and did not experience the same problem.

The Pal version of the matrix the movie only its own would fit on a dvd anyway without transcoding

second that m8,since more people seems to have problems whit dvd-decrypter
i always use it DVD9 most of time in "filemode"-all files
the Matrix etc whitout problems
using dvd2one and every chapter is there included the KungFu scene;)
so my thinking is ur doing something wrong(settings etc..)
dvd-decrypter is the best,use the latest 3.1.4.0
