I have used last night the DVD2One and makeiteasy tools to backup 2 DVDs from the xfiles season 1.
So far I was unable to back them up because each time I reencoded with CCE and reauthored with scenarist, I ended up with a jerky video on the TV although the m2v files play fine on the Pc as well as the dvd
I was able to do these backups in less than 2.5 hours, burning time included.

So with this new methods and these new tools, is it worth a while now to spend hours with the traditional method ?
is the old method dead or will you guys continue to use the CCE/Ifoupdate/scenarist method ?

which one according to you is the best one?
I am tempted to say the one with CCE in term of quality but in term of speed, DVD2One+makeiteasy is far ahead.

The "old" method is far from dead, in fact with DIF4U the automatization of this way of backing up has already begun, and automatic encoding and re-authoring is also well on its way. It will always be the most complicated and time consuming method, but once these tools are finished the manual interactions needed will be significantly less than what they are now (and especially compared to what they used to be half a year ago when every PGC had to be treated manually).
DVD2One and IC have some distinctive advantages by keeping the original DVD structure as it is (there will be a small percentage of movies that may not be processed using the CCE way but the results in that research isn't in yet) but for most titles this isn't such a problem (a title where it gets problematic is The Matrix.. if you read Seyton's guide you know why).

The reason why you get jerky pictures when doing cce reencoded yourself is probably because the video is Interlaced, and thus, you have to reencode it as interlaced or else you will have jerky video on your TV.

Well, there are many of us who are perfectionists when it comes to the quality of our DVDs - we want them to look as close as possible to the original, yet retain all of the features. InstantCopy/DVD2one IMO lag way behind in quality, but are very simple to use.

Hopefully though, we will be able to redress the balance in favour of CCE/Scenarist in the near future.
