Ok so I bought a 50 pack of Accu's from cdrdvdrmedia.com and they came in, read as 'Lead Data' and all burned fine up to the brim. They play/readback fine on my dvd-rom (smooth nero cd speed graphs) and play fine on my Samsung 511 standalone. So I used up this spindle and purchased a 100 pack from the same place. This time they read as 'Sony' and of the 3 discs I burned all 3 exhibited read problems from 3.8 gigs+. They all read FINE (no errors) but the speed drops from 3x-7x and bounces around quite a bit. On my dvd-burner (DRU-500a 1.0f) it'll read the disc at a steady 4x for data and 2x for video even from 3.8 gigs -> end. However one of the discs I burned was a bunch of divx's; if I play this in my dvd-rom drive (LiteOn 16x) the movie that's on the outermost part has trouble when I scan around in the movie (takes a LONG time for the movie to catch up).

I purchased a 5 pack of Apple 2x DVD-Rs and these so far have worked great, I decided to let Nero CD Speed have a go on the Maxell and Memorex DVD+R's I've burned and they exhibited the same symptoms on my DVD-ROM drive (bounces around and drops off past 3.8 gigs). Now these all play fine on my standalone and scan / ff/rw chapters fine, even at the end of the movie there's no pixelation or skips. Is this more likely a dvd-rom issue (having trouble with the end of some dvdr's?) or is it more likely a case of crappy dvd burnable media?? Any help? Any recommendations for good media that's a tad cheaper than Apple (tho Apple's work VERY well). Here's a graph of what the 'Sony' disc reads at, even one burned at 1x

Since the read back rate never drops below 1x you shouldn't experience visual errors on playback. However those spikes are not a good sign.

yeah, the playback is fine, even at the end of the movie (on a disc burned to the full 4.36 gigs) i couldnt hear the standalone straining or anything. yet on the data disc i burned it just spins up and down near the end when trying to copy/read the files that were placed there. im just gonna return this crap and stick with like TY's or something. mebbe just apple dvd-r's...those worked awesome. ill try some ritek g03's too. weird tho, that out of the 50 pack of lead data discs (sold as accus) that all 50 worked fine and don't experience any read problems even tho they were all burned at 2x. and the stuff sells for like less than $70/100 discs...oh well

If it was me I would stay away from cdrdvdrmedia.com. Do a search for them here. You will find a history of bad media and customer service.

Stick with better media. Riteks are the lowest I will consider.
If TY's were just a little less I would get them.
