View Full Version : Strange "SID" Error with Instant Copy

This is my first post, please go easy on me. I'm going to try give as much info as possible.

I'm having a problem with Instant Copy. I'm using a verified v7.0.0.91 without the reg hack. Running Windows XP Pro SP1, P3-600, 512 Ram, plenty of drive space.

Depending on the DVD, I get the following error message and IC stops:

The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist.

http://stuff.wso.net/images/instant_copy/ic_sid.jpg

Here's what I'm doing:
1. Rip all files with DVD Decrypter (v3.1.4.0) in FILE mode to hard drive. I have the settings in DVD Decrypter set to Default.

2. Use Instant Copy in Hard Disk-to-Hard Disk mode. It doesn't matter if I do Customized Resize settings or not, it still gives the error. The error appears just after you press Start either from the 1st screen or from the customize screen. It appears when it says "Progress: Testing video quality...".

Here's the strange part. Some DVD's work, some do not. For example, The Bourne Identity worked fine. But I get the message every time when I try Monsters Inc.

There are only 2 references in google for "The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist." and they are:

http://elecard-med.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=112

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=The+owner+SID+on+a+per-user+subscription+doesn%27t+exist.&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=OzeOS5F2AHA.1296%40tkmsftngp02&rnum=1

Quite strange... I did see there was one other person (user "gobama" over on dvdrhelp.com) who said they were having this problem. Another dvdrhelp member "motster" attributed it to using Remote Desktop and sound card issues. From what I can tell, it has nothing to do with either.

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143486&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120

Things I've tried:

1. Terminating running programs and processes one by one and retrying Instant Copy.
2. Tried making an ISO with DVD Decrypter but Instant Copy doesn't seem to recognize an ISO made with DVD Decrypter at all.
3. Tried on 3 different computers. But to be fair, all are identical setups other than the hardware.

I get the same error. Nothing makes it go away that I've found as of yet.

Is there anybody out there who can shed some light? This is one of the strangest error messages I've ever seen! :)

Thanks so much!

I got the same thing. It happened after I change my password. I changed it back and now it tells me that the program has expired. I haven't even tried it yet.

Puddy,

You'll note the two posts you referred to reference multiplexer problems. I only had the errors when in remote desktop mode, where audio/directshow is questionable, so I attributed it to sound problems. I could disconnect from remote desktop and vnc to the same machine and not get the error. (not logging in as a different user or anything.

So, you see on the same machine, w/ no difference other than being in Remote Desktop versus VNC (or at console), I can make it work/fail on demand. In fact I just did it by loggin in to Remote Desktop :-) (you'll have to trust me on that one!). Now into VNC...same disc, just relaunching PIC, and bam it works.

I can't say exactly why, but it sure seems to me to be a problem in the DirectX layers or something. Have you tried cranking down your audio and video hardware accelleration? That's something that also functions differently in Remote Desktop vs. the console...User permissions might also function a little differently.. You might try running a security audit tool or something on your user account while in RD vs. VNC...

I'm very interested to find the problem, as I'd like to be able to use Remote Desktop again!

It's really interesting that you are talking about VNC (actually TightVNC v1.2.8). I am using VNC on all of my machines, and I've use PIC with VNC successfully.

On the other hand, I can totally disable VNC, remove the server (and even double check that its terminated using Task Manager) and PIC will still fail on certain discs (for example, Monsters Inc.)

So, I find it really ironic that we are both using VNC in some capacity and we are both getting this goofy error message, but that it isn't happening the same way for both of us.

I wonder what else I could try?

I don't use "remote desktop" at all, is that the thing built into XP?

Also, the same DVD will fail on all computers no matter if I'm at the terminal or using VNC. And again, DVD's that work, work on in situations. Ahhh! What the heck could this be?

Is there an official Instant Copy support site or an e-mail address for Pinnacle support?

Thanks,
puddy

I'm using tightvnc also, but keep in mind that it works for me via TightVNC. Hmmm.. I can't think of any other differences between my failure and success with the "SID" error besides how I'm actually clicking the mouse (via one app or the other) :(

I can confirm I've had this error when trying to start a conversion with remote desktop. I think it's the same reason powerdvd will refuse to play any media when it detects remote desktop.

I've also caused a conversion to fail after logging in remotely to check the progress!

The error message isn't too helpful but after much frustration and confusion it is definitely remote desktop that was causing my problems. I have not had any trouble since I stopped using remote desktop. :)

Try lowering or raising your desktop resolution and your desktops colordepth. This is a known "feature" of IC...

Awesome! You are the man. That was it! I was at 16bit resolution. Bumped it up to 32bit and it worked...

Now I can sleep. :)

Thanks again!

Color depth or resolution changes didn't work for me...:(
Any more ideas???
The owner SID error appears when trying to preview or when testing video quality...

Which programs do you have running? Any media programs that lock audio...like winamp agent or realone (not saying those do but you get the idea.)

Hhhmmmm...
Disabling my Audigy soundcard changed the error to "OLE ...".
Should it be a conflict with Audio then???

I'll try to update the Audigy drivers and see if it helps.

Anyway this "bug" is driving me crazy . I'm trying everything before being more radical and format my harddrive...
And it's desperating when you do that and the problem continues (if you know what I mean).

well, i take off my creative sound card and i still have the same sid error...i think that could be a conflit of audio but only in the dvd movie...some thing dvd decrypter canīt decrypt , if not, why IC works whith some dvds? anyone knows some rippers to try out? iīm testing with the movie "seven" and already tried whit dvd decrypter (file, iso Mode), smartripper and clavdvdXP
