How does the 16:9 to 4:3 Mode work? PVA-Problem

Hello,
I've some problems with the borders in my digital captured movies.

If I choose the normal 4:3 mode the borders are too small, and if I use 16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3) everything is perfect with the moust videos, but sometimes the borders are too big!

So I searched the forum for a soulution, but can't finde one...
Is there any trick how I can see bevore encoding if it is better to use 4:3 or 16:9?
At the moment I'm using the frameselector, but it is really slow just to test...

Thanks for the tip, but I already knew that pages...

Seems to be so, that at the moment I've got only the chance to work by hand over the AVIsynth script...


The problem seems to be, that DVD2SVCD doesn't have an intelligent resize method.

If I understand it "16:9, borders added, encode as 4:3" correct DVD2SVCD just always calculates the input-stream down to 432px in height, and the rest is used by the borders.
What this does is make a disc which gives a 4:3 output by squashing the picture into the middle third and actually putting black bars on the disc, so the actual movie is contained in the middle 432 lines of the 576 available, the rest is black.

But the intelligent option would be to caltulate the width of the input Video to the needed width and then calculating the heigt so that we don't loose the picture-format. At last the rest of the picture is filled with black to get borders.

This is normally the same way WinDVD or other players playback SVCD's...
