I just wanted to post this scenario to stir some thoughts within the community.

If you were in a software store and you see InstantCopy and DVD2One stacked right next to each other on the shelf, which one would you put in the cart? You're drooling over both of course and your eyes are constantly shifting left and right. You hear a familiar voice shouting at you, "Hurry up and pick one! We're going to be late for the movies! I'll be waiting for you in the car in 1 minute!" It's your other half. Now, you can only pick one and these thoughts are quickly streaming through your mind. Thoughts of each program's ease of use, features, cost, video quality, processing time, etc.

So what's that feeling in your gut telling you which one is "the one" for you? InstantCopy...DVD2one...InstantCopy...DVD2one...

First I'd slap that nagging voice right in the face, and tell her to get in the kitchen and make me some pie. Then I'd snag both those programs, put them in my jacket, and walk out. I mean, what's the sense in paying for something I wouldn't buy normally? They aren't losing any money over me!

I am cracking up at that remark because I just spent 30 minutes reading the "copy DVDs" post, and it puts your remark into perspective ;)

DVD2One or InstantCopy?
Personally I think I would have to have them both. The simple reason is sometimes I may want to have it do everything, and others I would want just the movie. There is nothing I hate more than having to sit thru 20 minutes of menus and previews before I even get to watch the movie. And then there are some movies with great extras that I would like to keep.

As for now I am getting ready to get DVD2One, and stick with it, and later I will get InstantCopy once all the bugs are worked out. Just hope they work em out within the next 13 days..

Besides, my old lady tell me to get em both, just so she won't have to wait an hour for me to decide ;)

I copied a dvd using CCE, DVD2One and InstantCopy. The disc contained 3 50 min episodes in 4x3 with only one audio track (2 channel) and no subtitles. No extras and minimal menus so it was basically reducing 7.5 Gb of video to 4.38 Gb. As expected CCE produced the best results but InstantCopy was not far behind. I found that DVD2One produced the worst result and in particular in scenes where there was little variation (single coloured walls etc) DVD2One produced very obvious fringe banding (not sure how else to describe it except to imagine concentric areas of similar shades rather than a smooth gradient). This was not present in the other two as I checked several occassions that it occurred with DVD2One. I have seen this effect on my Panasonic Hard disc recorder when using 6 hour mode, and I find it much more of a distraction than gaininess etc.
