View Full Version : Problem with ver 1.1.2 b1 XVID

Just upgraded to v1.1.2 b1. Now when I try to convert a xvid avi file, i get the following message: Could not locate decompressor for format xvid.

The codec is definitely here and previous version was working fine with the same exact file.

Yup, I have the same problem, have had to revert to the previous release.

Try opening the avi in virtualdub. I did, and I got that same error message. Then I installed the codec, and bing everything worked including dvd2svcd. So my gues is that the right xvid code is _not_ installed. Besides. The access error a lot of people had in the previous version was because they hadn't installed the xvid codec properly. So instead of bombing out with an "Access Violation" error, dvd2svcd tells you that the xvid decompressor is missing.

The Xvid Codec I installed was Nic's version from 06/02/03

i have also installed Nic's xvid-codec , but the error stays as described above. what to do ?

I can open the avi in virtual dub, but cannot open it in dvd2svcd.

it seems it must be the xvid-codec Nic's from 6-2-2003 you have installed , then all is ok.i had the latest version from 16-2-2003 and then the error stays. now i have Nic's codec from 6-2-2003 and dvd2svcd loaded the avi-file. hope this is the solution. cu

I'll investigate a bit further on this issue.

I just installed nic's XVID - 16/02/03 and that also works. I'm at a loss. Maybe it's the audio type that dvd2svcd stumbles upon. What audio type is in the xvid (wav, mp3, ac3 or ...)?

@francks, @Sockpuppet-uk: Please PM me.

I also get the same problem I installed nimdo pack 8, but for some reason not only I got the same error but I started not to able to watch divx or xvid in media player so I got back to Xvid 2.4 and Divx 5.3 Pro codecs, but now I'm not able to encode from XVID sources, I'm almost 100% sure that with the previouse version of dvd2svcd I could open those files.

dvd2svcd

Yes, you could open them in the older versions. But because a lot of people got access violations when trying to convert xvid avi's I decided to make a check to see if the xvid codec was installed. I do that the same way VFW (media player for instance) does it. So, if you can open the xvid avi file in media player, dvd2svcd should also be able to open it.

Why don't you read the thread? Install the latest xvid Binary from nic's!

Just got in from work and installed nic's XVID - 16/02/03 and it now works fine..for some reason the new version just didnt like the XVID version I had on my system altho DVD2SVCD_1.1.1_Setup-Build_2 worked fine with it (can't remember which it was as I have so many codecs installed) :D

Anyway, have recently tried Dvd2one and Pinnacle Instant copy and still I come back to the only bit of software that gives me the results I want..thanks again Dvd2Svcd.

Hi there, the same happened to me with avi files encoded with Pegasus PICVideo Motion JPEG (2.10.0.22) codec. Encoding was made by VDub and Mplayer and VDub can open the files. Reverting back to D2S 1.1.1b2 works fine with existing codec.

Since this codec is not free anymore, I cannot just simply upgrade it. Any idea?

Thanks,
Z

Here's a funny thing. I just installed Koepi's binary and now to my big surprise I get the XVid Decompressor missing error too. Weird.

Could you pls check out MJPEG too? This is the lowest CPU intensive codec available so I would stick on it.

Thx,

I've removed the codec check completely.

Just to confirm that upgrading my codec to nic's latest version fixed the problem. One benefit is that I now have the latest codec :D

This has _nothing_ to do with the codec error! It is bad manners to continue a thread with a different problem!

There's a bug in dvd2svcd when using external subtitle files which doesn't follew the specs 100%

jevries1
20th February 2003, 16:36
It's the external subtitles that gives the halt...I use a TXT file like I used to.

Hey dude,
I asked the question because I didn't know what the problem was and in my opinion it fitted completely in this thread and conversation because of the nature of the problem: Xvid files that don't convert.
I experiment my ass of to find what kind of problems I encountered.
So ease up a bit...:sly:

jevries1 What? Where did one other person say anything about subs in their post? So how does adding a new and totally different step equal what is going on here?
When you add something new into the mix it becomes a new problem and should be treated as such. Each step can effect another. So if you are not 100% the same as the others create a new thread.

your right, I apologizes.
The thing is after spending hours of trying to find where the problems lays things get heaten up over here and as result there's overreaction...I thought I was doing the right thing to put my question in this thread. sorry.

Koepi's XviD-03012003-1 didn't solve the problem but Nic's : 16 February 2003 Release solved the problem :)
As a result, Canopus and T-Rex can find it too now.
THX 4 all advices and the link for Nic's

I can't load up XviD's either I get the message "cant locate XviD decompressor" I've tried different versions of the codec but nothing works, please help..

BTW, it worked fine on the previous version of dvd2svcd.

YAY, it's ok I fixed it Thanks, I realised that I hadn't uninstalled my old xvid codec before installing the new one, now works perfect :D

Hiya,

yet another person to add to the list of problems. DVD2SVCD could you please release the new version asap fixing the xvid problem with that removed check - even if just a small patch for that, as other than that problem this new build is great.

on several pc's I've ran your program, under several different os's, and only ever had that problem with CCE freezes at 33% etc under Windows XP, and every machine I've tried on XP had the same, even tryin all the usual suggested methods of replacing dlls, new cluster sizes, safe modes etc. However, your new build has fixed that problem in XP and it encodes fine each time (apart from had to do the CCE crc patch once) and tried on several XP machines.

Anyways....I'm digressing somewhat.

This pc I built up fresh only last week, and the only codec pack that'd been installed has been Ace Mega Codec Pack XP 5.01, so I don't have a huge untidy mess on of codecs at the moment. I tried using the new xvid codecs from divx-digest, both the nico and the Koepis, but to no avail. Also tried taking off Ace Codecs completely so that no major codecs should have been installed and installed just the xvid, but still couldn't get it working :( so if you could release a quick patch or something or have ur new build out quickly it'll solve a lot of hair pulling (well - not the after hrs stuff ;))

sorry to rant,

catch ya laters,
tuck
