I AM GOING CRAZY!
I have a "Z-Cyber (zoltrix) Nightingale Pro 6" soundcard with a SPDIF-output. I have my reveiver (JVC RX-5020r) connected via the digital dvd input which is coaxial.
When playing ac3 videos i did not hear any sound so I installed the odio dekoda. Now my receiver did playback via spdif but told me that the input is "linear pcm". i heard the normal sound but only in stereo.
next codec i tried was the ac3filter 0.63b.
when choosing spdif output all i heard was an annoying sound that didnt sound like the movie's sound at all. and still: "linear pcm".
the funny thing was that i heard that sound via the analog output of my soundcard too once i chose spdif in the filter settings.
the filter didn't show any sound input neither in the input level nor the output level. despite this fact i could hear sound once i chose 5.1 or stereo even via spdif even when i did not activate spdif in the filter. but this doesnt help me b/c i have no boxes that i can connect directly to the soundcard. only those of my reveiver.
another weird thing is that my driver software of the soundcard told me that i could only enable the spdif output when i chose "2 speakers" instead of 5.1. once i chose 5.1 the spdif-output deactivated itself.

p.s.: i used "power dvd xp" to playback the divx video files, and yes i did activate the spdif audio output in the player
